I have a neighbor who lives next to my back yard. This neighbor, for whatever reason, will call the police with little to no prompting for things that are perfectly legal. This afternoon, she called the police to complain about noise since my housemate was listening to the radio at a reasonable volume while working in the garden. This is not the first incident like this. Is there any sort of legal recourse than can be taken against this neighbor? It almost seems as though me and my housemates are under martial law because of fear that she will call the police for something like eating dinner in our backyard. Any advice?

Yes. The next time she calls the police, tell the responding officers that she is a chronic complainer, and that you want to file a complaint against her for disturbing the peace and filing a false police report against you.
If it keeps up,you can sue her for filing a false police report and malicious prosecution.
Good luck. People like that are a pain to deal with.

Legal action could cost you a lot of money and there is no need for this. I had a really terrible time w ith attacks and violent abuse from neighbours and the Council was absolutely brilliant. Get in touch with the Police by reporting every single incident. They will give a crime number (URN) for every offence that you report and, frankly, the more the merrier from the point of view of getting things done. At the same time get in touch with the anti social behaviour unit at your local Council. They will tell you exactly what to do and, in all probability, someone will come to see you. A work of warning. This can take some time to resolve and you may have to keep a diary for the asbo unit. Please stick at it though because the rewards are worth it. Best of luck.

Any kind of action you take will be playing in to this persons hands
If you have nothing that the cops may accidentally stumble across will responding to your neighbors complaints that could reflect poorly on you in the eyes of the law. then continue being what you are, the nice young people who for no reason have become the target of the witch across the way.
It is against the law to call for police assistance when none is needed. and it's only a matter of time before the cops stop being so nice about constantly getting called out to deal with this person delusion's. so make sure all your ducks are in a row and then kick back and watch the fun begin.

N one should have to live this way IF you are in fact a law abiding citizen. I would contact a lawyer to see if anything can be done. You will probably have to prove "pain and suffering" or monetary loss somehow though. I guess if it was me I'd just chalk it up to some people are just jerks. One thing you could do is hire a good PI to dig up some dirt on her and then confront her with it and tell her to leave you alone.

If she is calling for things that are legal, go to your police department, ask for a printout of the call reports citing your residence if available and file a nuisance complaint against her. I know some people have been charged with 911 abuse.

My husband's a police officer, and he deals with fruitcakes like this all the time. Believe me, if she's a frivolous complainer, then they'll know it and remember her as such. Unfortunately, the police have to respond to the call, but they won't really take it seriously and probably won't do anything against you if you're the one she's complaining about.

The people are probably going to soon tell her to stop her calling because she is taking time away from serious police business

File a harassment lawsuit against her and take her to court and get her where it hurts, in her pocketbook.
