My whistle, or my violin

You know what's funny? I love music, esp classical music, but I never had the patience or discipline to stick with it. As a kid I played the piano and violin but I bored quickly. Now that I'm older, I'd love to learn the guitar.

The biggest thing is motivation. As a kid, I never had it, I felt like my parents were forcing me to do something and as a result I resisted. I think the easiest way to learn an instrument is an instructor but if you have the time and patience you can certainly teach yourself.

My girlfriend is a great cello player. But she likes to joke her favorite instrument is the skin flute.. LOL. She's pretty good at that too! Silly I know :)

My favorite instrument to play, hands down is the Bassoon. I am a bassoon major in University, and although I play many other instruments, nothing comes close to this bad boy. It's tone is un-real. It can sound sad, or goofy, or just super mellow. It's super complicated mechinisms (there are 13 keys for your THUMBS) and really picky reeds (you have to make and customize your own...and then continue to adjust them as you play) provide and endless source of frusteration , but it's SO worth it. Every ensemble needs a bassoonist. We are very high in demand. You hear them everywhere, yet hardly anyone knows what a bassoon is. I began to teach it to myself, but luckily, part of the program in the Faculty of Music is weekly lessons. This instrument is CRAZY and I strongly recommend knowledge of other woodwind instruments before you take a stab at it.
It doesn't matter how fast you can play. It is actually much, much harder to play a piece extremely slow than it is to play it fast. But really, all that matters is how well you play it at any tempo.

I play piano--I took it for 8 yrs, and was pretty good by then. I think it's important to have a good music teacher if you want to play an instrument. It makes all the difference with how fast you excel and how much you understand your instrument.

The guitar is my favored instrument, primarily steel-string acoustics because I like to keep my calluses toughened. The five-string banjo comes next.

I'm self-taught on both instruments, having played the guitar since 1956 and the banjo since 1961.

I've never had a professional lesson. I learned from watching others and honing my music-reading skills. I'm not a fast picker like Jerry Reed or Roy Clark, but a fingerstylist like Chet Atkins.

I play the flute and the piano. Flute for over 4 years and piano for my whole life.

I taught myself, but that didn't mean I was bad. I have won multiple competitions, so I'd say I'm getting to be good player of both instruments.

I would love to learn the violin and the guitar. I play the drums a little bit just for fun.

I love playing piano. It's relaxing for me, not quite sure why though. I taught myself, but I haven't learned everything. I'm still teaching myself. I can go pretty fast, but not near as fast as people who have been playing for years with an instructor.

I also can play trumpet, but I haven't since like 7 months ago. I can go pretty fast, and I'm good, because I actually had an instructor for 5 years.

Piano.
When I was really young, my parents put me in lessons. At first I hated it, but as the years went by I began to appreciate it more and more. Now I really love it, I can play it at vivace , the fastest I've tried, and from what people tell me, I'm really good at it. Piano is pretty hard to start with but after a while it gets easier. It is one of the best and most elegant instruments to play, and I really enjoy it.

the piano!
I have a Bachelor's in Piano from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I also learned the violin and the harp. But I think all the instruments are wonderful!

Well, I play the piano and French horn. I'd have to say I like playing horn better because there's NOTHING better in the world than the feeling of playing beautiful music in an ensemble. I began playing piano at 6yr old, picked up the flute in 5th grade for 4 years, started horn in 9th grade and ended up majoring in music with my horn for my undergraduate degree. I pretty much taught myself horn- my guidance before college was very limited. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily great at playing any instrument.... musicians are constantly learning and growing in their abilities.

I used to play a Tenor Saxophone in the college band. I learned to play myself and then I took some lessons at school. I used to play a song titled "Giant steps" by John Coltrane, but that was when I could really play. I no longer play the sax, it got stolen from my car at school and I have not replaced it.
