Should I switch from Royal Canin: Labrador Retriever to Authority Harvest Baked Adult Chicken? I know, you guys are going to say "Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, California Natural, etc is better get that." Well those extremely high quality brands are very expensive and Petco/Petsmart don't sell em... But I do want the very best for my dog, and Royal Canin is costing me 40 bucks a month! I heard Authority Harvest Baked is better, and cheaper too... Should I make the switch?

Puh-lease! Eukaneuba is full of fillers, corn, and by-products (no offense or anything, but it's pure garbage)!!!

Did you hear Authority Harvest Baked is better from a Petsmart employee???? Read the ingredients and you maybe in for a little surprise. Stay far away from the personal in that store, trust me they are trained to push the house brand products, I know from hands on experience.
READ the labels. A good quality dog food will have beef, lamb, chicken as the first ingredient. Anything that lists meat by-products first, not as good. Any brand that has corn, wheat, rice first not good at all.
There are lots of quality brands of feed out there that do not have the huge price tag on them. You just have to do some research (Dog Health and Nutrition for Dummies by Christine Zink is a great book) and read labels. You would be surprised at the places you can find good feed at a lower cost.

I don't think I fall into either category, so I I hope you don't mind that I'm answering anyway :)
I did buy the puppy formula of the Authority Harvest Baked, but my pup didn't care for for it. I now feed her Solid Gold, which I purchase at my local Petco. Petsmart doesn't carry it but Petco does. I agree that it is on the expensive side, but she eats less of it, so in the long run, I'm really not spending much more, if at all.
I think that whatever your dog your dog does well on, is what you should feed to him or her. As someone else mentioned, when you do make the switch, just make sure you do it gradually so that your dog doesn't get an upset tummy. Good luck.

I have been feeding Royal Canin Sensible Choice for quite a few years and have been very happy with it.
Cheap usually means crappy, but expensive doesn't mean good. Spend some time studying labels, and if you don't know how to analyze them read some articles.
Petco only carries two foods I would feed (Sensible Choice and Natural Balance), Petsmart does not have a SINGLE food I would feed my dogs. The employees are told to push certain products and I certainly wouldn't look to them for advice either.
Petco/Petsmart are pretty overpriced and you can probably buy it cheaper elsewhere.

I don't know anything about Royal Canin or Authority Harvest Baked, but I heard that Nutro Max is one of the most natural, healthiest brand dog food out there ... I used to feed mine Purina Little Bites and Pedigree canned food, but I switched to Nutro Max dry and canned, and even Nutro Max biscuits. I feel a lot better, and one bag for about $10 generally lasts me pretty close to a month. Of course some days my dog is a healthier eater than other days, but depending on how much your dog eats you might end up spending maybe $25 a month at the most. Good luck and God bless!

Personally I don't like either food. Especially Eukanuba from Iams. I feed my dog Wellness. It is a holistic pet food and can run a bit pricey but compared to Royal Cainin it isint too bad. Other than that Eagle Pack is also a very good food that wont run you a morgage payment. If you are unsure, read the ingredients and they will give you a good idea of whats really in the food (i.e, corn mean, chicken meal.. etc).

Yes, it sounds much better than Royal Canin. Just do the switch slowly so their digestive system doesn't get upset.
And I agree...Eukaneuba is total crap! I feed mine Innova Evo and I really don't find the cost that bad compared to most brands...it might be worth looking into.

Eukanuba. This is the best pet food ever.
Yes,
It is expensive, but after the first 2 weeks, your dog will only eat a little bit of it to get all the nutrition it needs. It will also poop A LOT LESS.
So the price per month to feed it will go down.
Do you feed at one particular time or free range (just leave it out for the dog) That also effects the amount they eat.
Personal experience... they don't tend to bolt their food when it is left out all the time for them so they tend to eat less. The pros and cons on that are still back and forth.
