depends on what you would be using your car for.
the focus is an inexpensive and reliable vehicle. the z-tec engine used in the focus is a p-zev rated motor and requires very little attention (but still requires typical maintinance), it was actualy designed by Cosworth (Ford's racing outfit in England). the focus is a compact car and doesnt offer much in the way of power or space. there is an SVT equipped focus that has improved power and handling.
the Taurus was a seriously mass produced vehicle that provided many years of affordable transportation for rental car companies. since there are so many out there, they can be bought used for relativly cheap. they have decent power and space, fuel economy is ok but certainly not as good as the Focus.
in my opinion, if you are not worried about cargo space, the Focus is a much better for fuel economy, and reliability.
repairs can be expensive on either vehicle, but i have seen my share of major components go out on the Taurus (auto transmissions, steering gears) whereas the Focus seems to be more bulletproof.

A Ford Taurus has a better reputation for being reliable. But the Ford Focus is more trendy and fun.

Both S***. Did you wonder why they qiut calling it the Taurus and changed it to Fusion? Its just to shake the reputation. The Focus is constantly updated, and still only gets average reviews while the Chevy Cobalt has remained relatively unchanged since day 1. Ford also had more recalls than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined last year, and came overall second worst to Toyota (thats a shocker). Nowadays GM and Honda are the best, if you test any one of GM's new vehicles you'll see why.

The Taurus looks a lot better, but they do develop transmission problems after so many miles. The Focus doesn't look as good, but I have not heard anything on the downside of the mechanical operation.

I have never driven a Focus, so can't compare but I will sure vouch for Taurus. I have had a 93 with about 130K miles for about 2 years now, and it has never broken down on me.

The Taurus by far. Its just a better more powerful car. Bigger engine, 4door. It handles better, and is allot less problematic.

Which is better, regular Coke or cherry Coke? Matter of taste and cost.
