The vet told me to give the dog this dewormanizer(sp?) pill after one week of the visit. I can't find the pill. Is it bad if the dog doesn't get it's pill today? The week after the visit from the doctor?

I do not quite understand. Is it a monthly heart worm pill like Interceptor? Or is it a pill for tapeworms? Why did he say a week, did the vet give him some other medicines at the time? Or do you have your dog on the monthly heart worm prevention? If it is the later, then you should go to the vet or animal shelter and get another one. Has it been an month or longer since his last one? Heart worms are expensive and the treatment is hard on the animal. It is awhole lot less expensive to give monthly. The mosquito bite in some carry the heart worm larva. Then it easily passes into your dog's bloodstream to the heart where it grows very large. GOD BLESS YOU! sus04mc@yahoo.com

It normally takes about 3 months of no protection for worms to start invading the dog's body ... even then, if you give the pill to the dog within that time, it will normally kill the worm before it becomes an adult. I wouldn't take the chance, though. My dog is fighting heartworms now. I opted to go with the natural treatment, giving him 2 myotrophin pills a day to protect his heart, together with the monthly preventative and Vitamin C powder to weaken the heartworms while they are dying. If there's a problem getting the pill right away, I'd give him a teaspoon of pure Vitamin C powder a day, but mix it with raw ground meat so that the dog doesn't find ways to avoid it. The Vitamin C makes the dog acidy so that the hearworms can't survive in his body, and if he doesn't already have heartworms, it's even better. Good luck and God bless ...

Was the dog treated for heartworm or did it test negative and you were told to put it on the preventative? Call 1st thing in the morning and get another pill. It is very important that they get them on the same day every month.
Mark the calendar with the hearts that come with the medicine.
Good luck.

I'm not sure what pill you are referring to, but...
If it is the Heart worm preventative, it is no big deal if the dose is a week late or so.
If your dog has heart worms and it is the treatment to kill the heart worms currently infecting your dog, call the vet and go get another one ASAP!

A few days won't hurt, but call your vet and get another one as soon as possible,as dogs must have this medication once a month in order to be protected against the heartworm.

Dogs should get hw prevention every month. In MD it is recommended year round. If they aren't on prev and get bitten by an infected mosquito, worms will grow in their hearts and kill them. Call your vet for another dose on Monday. Good Luck!!

who cares if dewormanizer is spelled wrong. well, i don't think it would really matter if you give the pill a day late, but 2 days-im uncertain. it could be hazardous to your dog....
just ask your vet for another. simple.

Heartworms come from mosquitos. It is really important to protect your pet from heart worms. Prevention is way less costly than curing them.
