It would be called a formal gown and you can purchase them at any place that sells formal apparel.

Despite the answers from some people... Black is actually not uncommon as a wedding dress for formal evening weddings.
My best friend got married in a dress she found at a formal wear shop, a black overdress, decorated with jet beads, with a white underdress that peaked through along a slit to the side and along the bottom edge, with pearl beads.
She looked amazing. Wear a dress that looks stunning on you, in whatever colour you chose. Don't limit yourself because of a silly convention that doesn't really mean anything anymore. Heck, in other cultures white is a sign of mourning and death, so our 'traditional' weddings look right creepy to them. Red is very traditional in some parts of the world.

try Ebay and look under cocktail or party gowns - there's quite a few black dresses which have a small white lace detail or design on them - just enough to 'lighten' the overall effect and not make it look too funereal! Don't be put off by what others say - wear what you want! Black is a very slimming and flattering colour and you could accessorise with a contrasting colour (hair decoration or jewellery) to look really stunning. Good luck.

You'd probably be better off just buying a black dress for your wedding and don't concern yourself with wether its an actual wedding dress or not. Wear what makes you feel good.

You're probably going to have a hard time finding one as such. But there are SO many black evening gowns out there, surely one would serve the purpose. It doesn't have to be intended for that specific use, as long as it's appropriate for the occasion. Finding a train will be a challenge, but if you find the dress, a good seamstress can add the train. Good luck!

I think a black wedding dress could look as good as any colour! Do you need a black tiara too? Try www.best4weddings.co.uk, there is a lovely black gothic tiara that would compliment a black dress. Good luck :-)
