Anything you do while driving takes your attention away from the driving task. Even users who use a hands free device are still distracted by the conversation, so an argument could be made to ban talking with your passenger while driving. Reality is that even if that were a ban, people would find away around it and still use the phone.

Anything that distracts the drivers attention can contribute to an accident. Let's ban all distractions. What would this mean? No food.. No Drinks. No passengers are allowed to speak. No radio, or tape players. No clock. No looking in the mirror at yourself.
While we are at it, lets make all the drivers wear racing fire suits, helmets, and a 5 point harness! We should also limit vehicles to a safe speed for pedestrians, let's say 3 MPH in the city and 8 MPH on the highway.
Banning cell phones is not the solution, nor is the requirement that a driver use a hands free device! The solution is simple. Hold the drivers that cause the accidents accountable, rather than punishing the safe drivers who can chew gum and walk at the same time!

As much it bothers me when cell phone drivers are around me on the road, they shouldn't ban it. If they make driving and talking on the phone illegal, then they will have to make adjusting the radio while driving illegal, and eating, and drinking a soda. But i have actually heard a new study that driving while on the phone is more dangerous than drinking and driving. When you drive drunk, you have your full attention on the road, and when you are on the phone, you are distracted. Talking on the phone does cause accident. That is a fact. But so does adjusting the radio, etc. If they ban cell phones while driving, there is still a whole bunch of other distractions in the car also.

no i dont think they should be banned, you have more people messing with the radio and not watching what they are doing than people on the cell phone. I mean look cops and truckers they talk on the CB radio's all to often while driving down the road it is no different than a cell phone because you have to use ur hands to talk on either on it is called multi-tasking. All im saying if they are going ot take cell phones away from drivers then they should take the CB from cops and truckers it all the same thing. But you know that it is not going to happen.a police officer giving up something.HAHAHA. But getting back to the cell phone no they should keep it just the way it is.

Talking on the cellphone while driving is a hazard, for sure. The problem is that more attention is being paid to the conversation than on the action around your car.
Anything that happens in front of you can put you at risk if you aren't 100% focused on what is happening.
Unless it is lifethreatening, there is no reason to be on the phone constantly yakking just because you can. Driving requires constant attention and even then you are subject to have an accident.

Nope. Depends on the user, level of responsibility and common sense and how the driver is using the phone. It takes just a little bit of common sense to know you shouldn't be dialing or texting while you are driving, which is why they have quickdial. One button dials. If I ever need to handle the wheel in a situation, the phone gets dropped on my lap, I don't care where I'm at in the conversation. And usually I pull over anyway. Also, most of us use handsfree headsets anyway.

i actually heard that most accidents are caused by people who are distracted by other people and other drivers rather than cell phones. in this state we are supposed to have headsets or something that lets us keep both hands free. but ive never seen anyone pulled over for using a cell phone. kinda funny, i always see cops on cell phones while driving around. a solution is using headsets.

Yes they should be banned while people are driving. My husband just had an accident last week because he was talking on his cell phone to a client. He admitted that talking on the cell phone distracted him and he side swiped another car.

Cellular phones are the main cause of accidents but i don't htink they should ban it because, it could be a really important call, on the other hand, talking is distracting

I don't think they should be banned at all. Sometimes you need to talk while driving, emergencies happen. Some things can't wait. Others who do drive and talk for no good reason, I think it's their risk. The government is getting too involved.
