If cancer has metastesised to other organs, usually anything but a painfree death is irrelavent for someone your father's age.Sorry, but colon cancer is one of the worst for metastesising. A surgeon would try to save someone if he thought there was any chance of survival. Its time for you to accept that your dad won't live much longer, and spend as much time with him as possible, and ensure that he gets the meds he needs to keep him comfortable.

I am sorry that this is happening to your family. I think that once the cancer hits your liver then there's not a whole lot that anyone can do. Enjoy what time you have with him and be joyous for the holidays. Make sure that every person in your family and everyone you know signs up to get a colonoscopy regularly - colon cancer does tend to run in families. Ask his doctor about alternative treatments and don't be afraid to visit some holistic healing places for treatment, sometimes the alternative medicine helps more than the traditional.

There are some things that you can do but they may be expensive and may not work. My brother in law tried natural treatments - didn't work at all - but has helped some. Some people have been helped by colon flushing - improves one's overall health. Basically, a trained nurse practitioner will provide cleansing supplements and take you through series of colon flushings where the colon is cleansed of all residue - improving your immune response - this has helped alot of poeple - but I can't guarantee that it would save him. I've tried the colon flushing myself and my skin cleared up, my plantars warts went away, I had more energy and my migraines eased up and my immune system definitely improved. They will also suggest some very radical dietary changes aimed at keeping the colon clean. Sometimes, colon flushing cannot be performed if a person if their tissues are too old to tolerate such a procedure, I would recommend finding a professinonal who does the colon cleanse, they can also recommend good supplements to support the liver. I can't guarantee anything and most people by age 76 could be very must against any kind of strange new therapies like this - but even if he were to die - it woucould help him feel better through the process.

Hi Big R
There are always options, but its up to the patient to take steps in order to get healthy.
First I would start a juice cleanse for 30-60 days (I just did one for 26 days) and do a colon and liver cleanse as well to rid of the toxins in the blood.
Drink a gallon of distilled water a day and start some exercise program. There are many different cleanses to help overcome cancer, but its not easy and people are skeptical. An open mind and the will to live can overcome anyone's opinion.

I am not a doctor, but my understanding of what I have read is that liver cancer is most always terminal and rather fast in it's growth/effect. I'm sorry you are faced with this situation. Hospice is a wonderful program, very dignified and a great way to spend last days with a loved one. No one wants to loose a loved one. God bless you and your family.

Sorry to hear, he might be too old to do chemo, it might just kill him quicker.
