I am not sure of the reason they do it, but I do agree that there are enough children in the US that would love to be adopted. BUT, I can say this, from my personal experience...maybe they are doing it to be protected. I will make this short and brief to make my point. I am a mother of 5 kids (ages 12 to 18), and last Feb. I decided to start babysitting a 4 weeks old baby for a friend of a friend. Long story short, a week after starting, the mother AND father dissappeared, due to a drug problem. With the help of CPS, we decided to keep taking care of the baby to avoid him going to a foster home. After 3 months, my husband left for Iraq, and I continued my life, knowing that when my husband comes home, we would adopt this precious soul. Well, it is now Nov., and he's almost 10 months old, NOW THE PARENTS RETURN!!! Because of nothing being legal YET, I am now fixing to lose him. They are getting treatment and coming to get him as soon as they get settled. I KNOW that children belong with their parents, and that they do deserve a chance to MAKE THINGS RIGHT, but it is killing me. We have all become very close to him, and now we are trying to get used to the idea he is going to leave us soon. If we were adopting from another country, it finalizes so much easier, and sooner, so no fear of losing the child if the parents CHANGE THEIR MIND. We were never looking to adopt a child, it just happened to fall into our lap, and I would not change it for the world. But the broken heart the day he leaves will be as bad as the day I put my husband on a plane headed for Iraq...only difference is, I know my husband will be coming home, and I cannot be certain I will ever see this precious child again. I cannot even fight for visitations, I have no family connections to him.

I agree with you. I've thought the same thing. But you do have to think about other countries living conditions are much worse than our places here. Celebrities may do it for show, but I think they really want to make a difference, but if they adopt here you probably wouldn't hear about it. I always wanted to adopt too. But I find myself saying "Oh, I'd love to adopt a little Spanish baby girl".......why? I think people are obsessed with WHERE their adopted child comes from and (some) with what they'll look like.
When people don't have kids....they are most willing to just ADOPT. A child needs parents, no matter where they come from. But I think the USA's conditions for orphans are a whole lot better. The more money you have of course, you can go overseas and pay all that extra money for a foreign child. It's very sad.....seeing all those kids in orphanages overseas, and not being able to do anything. I don't think the US even has orphanages like that......but I could be wrong.

Orphans everywhere suffer and the main problem is not having the love and attention of parents. However, babies in other countries suffer in ways that almost no babies here do. For example they are much more likely to be starving or living in horrible conditions. Our government takes care of things a little better than that. If you look at the condition of orphans in other countries it often really is worse, like babies in orphanages getting diaper changes once a week or never learning to walk because they have to be in cribs all the time. Never being cuddled, etc. Some babies go blind because they have nothing to look at. At least orphans here are usually in foster care, which is not always great but much better than what a lot of babies in other countries suffer. Some orphans in other countries are properly cared for, but in others they suffer much more .
But I don't think anyone should make a huge deal of what they are doing to help people- you just do it, know what I mean?

As someone who has looked into adoption I thought I would answer this. I totally understand where you are coming from but you need to realize that the red tape involved in domestic adoptions is terrible. It is more expensive and much more difficult to do. Overseas adoptions are generally less expensive and easier to complete. Once the process starts it can take years to actually get your child. Overseas adoptions are usually much quicker. For us it came down to money. We found out it was going to cost us a minimum of $20,000 to adopt from China. That was the minimum. We chose China because we live in Japan and it is close. (Japanese adoption is very complicated) Well, we would have had to deplete almost all of our savings to adopt and then we'd have nothing left to take care of the child's needs. So, we decided we just couldn't afford it. The fees for domestic adoptions are usually well over that of overseas. So, if we were told we'd need to pay $20,000 to adopt from China can you imagine what it would take to adopt from the US?
I've also looked into fostering kids in the US. But after research we've decided not to. The system is so messed up. I think before criticizing those who adopt you need to look at the way the system is set up and criticize the way the system works. If they didn't do things so backwards maybe more people would adopt domestically.

The social politics about adopting a child in our country is probably a big factor. An affluent actor adopts a Appalacchian mountain child they will have all of the mean jokes, such as the same with a hispanic child, a black US child or a cambodian child.
Plus I thini there is the exotic "puppy" side of it that makes it over the top and "so" celebrity.

ok, this could be a humorous prank. you're taking a trashcan and fill it approximately 3/4 way with water. You lean this up against your abode's door. Knock on the door, run, and conceal so which you are going to discover it from a distance. while the unsuspecting individual opens the door the water will fall into their abode flooding it. this could be an exceptionally humorous prank. yet don't get caught. yet another one is to get a distant that works on the main perfect t.v. and mute it, come approximately the quantity, substitute the channel, and swap off the ability do it while they are watching their famous prepare. ok- right here is one for revenge. it may be ultimate to try this someplace the place the guy you're pranking won't be able to get yet another pair of garments-like tenting working example. What you do is get a field of Bleach and positioned a team of hair in it and bypass away it there over nighttime. next morning, drain it and chop the hair actual effective... and it turns into itching powder!!! positioned it throughout the different individual's outfits

i have to say i agree/disagree because, yes, celebs are focused on adopting from other countries but that doesn't mean the orphans in the U.S. are completely being ignored. there are orphanages here where orphans can get help. the reason there are a lot of adoptions over seas is because these countries that we are adopting from are third-world countries. this mean they do not have the assistance, (such as orphanages), there to help them. but, i do understand where you are coming from.

Even though you don't see it on TV there are a lot of people adopting in the US. Mostly because it is a lot cheaper. I think it might be a bigger deal because of the conditions they live in. And to take a child out of that situation and give them a better life is why they do it.

i agree with you.. but the united states is like the best country in the world.. they have alright foster homes here.. on the other hand people on the opposite side of the world live in fuked up places.. they have horrible horrible places.. children are actually out in the streets with nothing to eat.. whereas here in the us there is atleast descent places for those children to stay at.. so i think thats why those celeberties do that..

I'm in total agreement with you and could have written that question myself. This whole Jolie or Madonna makes me so mad that Americans don't want to take care of the US first, like it's so noble to go to Africa when there are so many kids who need homes right here!
ARGH!
