Catholics consider themselves to be Christians. So do Protestants.
Protestant is simply a general term given today to all those Christians who do not belong to either the Roman catholic or the Orthodox churches. Evangelical Christians are numbered among the Protestants.
The term Protestant was first coined when in Germany, a diet (some kind of parliament) was convened, and the Reformed princes said: "We protest that ... " (they were not protesting against anything at this particular time. "protest" meant "affirm". Not that there is anything wrong with protesting against what is wrong. But that wasn't the case here). So they affirmed the reformed doctrines which they believed.

There are people that are Protestant and are Christians and there are Catholics that are Christians. The Protestant church has a different way of teaching religion that the Catholics. It would be up to the person as to which one he/she wants to go to.

Protestants are Christians just like the Catholics. The differences are trivial and pointless.

"Christian" is an umbrella term that describes people who follow the teachings of Christ. Therefore, Protestants are Christian. Catholics are also Christian. There are subtle differences between Protestants and Catholics, but their beliefs are essentially the same.

If a person is a Christian and they are not Catholic then they are Protestant. Protestants protest the Catholic Church. I hate to say it but, it is the nature of the beast.

protestants are christians, just like catholics. basically there are two branches of christianity-protestant & catholic. catholics tend to be somewhat liberal in their practice and protestants would be more conservative, depending on how you look at it.
the problem with the christian church, divisions. i was brought up baptist, which is a branch of protestantism, but have slipped through denominational loyalty, and am wondering, would jesus have wanted his church to be so divided? i am simply a christian, a catholic is my brother in christ, just as well as a pentacostal. we may vary slightly in how we practice our worship, but are we not all trying to promote the same thing?
