Wait 2 days and see if after the 2 days there is improvement. Limit activity. NO ice. Cool weather makes dogs feel frisky and energetic. If they are not used to a lot of physical activity, they get sore muscles like us. He probably ran until extreme muscle fatigue, then got really sore.

You didn't say what kind of dog or how big, and whether it was a front or back leg. If she is putting any wieght on the leg, it probably isn't broken. Since it is Saturday evening, most likely the only place you can take her is to a Pet ER, but this is not really an emergency. If she is not in serious pain-- still willing to walk a little, still willing to eat, not crying in pain, able to sleep comfortably, you can wait until tomorrow or even Monday to take her. Keep her confined and off that leg as much as possible. If she seems like she is in serious pain, it is certainly more humane to take her in tonight to get some pain relievers for her, but if she has an injury that requires surgery (like a cruciate rupture in a hind leg), she probably wouldn't get surgery done on it until Monday at the very earliest. Good Luck!!

Yes you should take her to the vet.Yes an ice pack will probably help and if I were you I'd call the vets emergency number tonite and find out when he/she calls you back how much Bayer asprin your dog can safely be given to help with pain.It has to be given by weight so I hope you know how much your dog weighs.
You can also wrap the leg in a heating pad set on low or medium and hold it on the leg for about 10 minutes.Alternate hot and cold if you like.

Give it a day, if no better, take her to a vet..pronto ! Like someone said, it could be worse than a sprain. I also wouldn`t try any home remedies, like heat or ice, u could cause the condition to worsen. If she stopped bearing weight on that leg, take her to a vet now, good indication of a broken bone somewhere.

If it's a sprain it will just cost you money to find out with no comfort for the dog. Keep him as inactive as possible for a couple weeks it will heal itself. Hope it isn't a hip problem

I love dogs alot I have a dog of my own. This happened to my dog to But the next day he was all better. I say that you need to take your dog to the vet and get her checked out.Oh and never put a ice pack on a dog ok it will get the dogs body temperature to drop.Make sure when you get her back give her a big hug but not to tight, and just hold her in your arms. I hope she is fine.

Take her to the Vet, and also check her pads. She could have cut one of her pads and you may not have noticed it. My dog did that at the dog part about a month ago. I never saw any blood because she had been swimming and after she started limping I checked her legs and pads and found one of her pads was almost cut in half. Had to get it treated quick.

This happened to my Cocker Spaniel, Molly. (She was playing around and after that limped where ever she went) We took her to the vet right away and he said it was sprained, but we had to give her medicine for it (inflammation), so you should take your pet to the vet, you can never be to safe and you might need medicine for your dog to.
