My neighbor and his wife, who i am friends with, have a small Poodle who has bitten several of their relatives(even drawing blood from his brother) and they seem to think this is funny. While they think it's not a big deal because the dog has done no real serious damage, this concerns me because they are being irresponsible pet owners. There are small kids in our neighborhood and they let this dog roam freely. A couple of other neighbors have voiced their displeasure to me about it. I think they are intimidated by my neighbor who owns the Poodle because he is a big guy(6'4,310) who is known to be a bit of a hot head. I'm not afraid of him(i'm an ex-boxer) and i have tried to talk to him and his wife about this, but they seem to think it's not a big deal. What can i do to keep peace in my neighborhood but at the same time, make sure the kids are all safe? This dog has chased a kid on her bike before and the owners actually laughed about it. This is not cool. What should i do about this?

Jo, if this dog chased and bit one of my kids, i wouldn't care if the owner was King Kong, he'd have some serous, serious problems.

This should not be taken as a joke. Although there hasn't been any serious injuries yet, there's no saying what will happen in the future.
About four or five years ago, I too had a dog. She was what was considered "timid". This meant she was afraid of everyting and everything. She would either run from something, or she would bite it.
We had two choices for her.
1. We could put her behind our garage in a little lock-down fence area where she would have no contact with people.
or
2. We would simply have to put her down, because a dog of her nature may go off on anybody.
What I would reccomend you doing, is calling either your animal control officers, or the police department. I know that he is your neighbor and don't want to cause any problems, but when you are talking about children being chased down the block, I don't think you have much of a choice. You still could remain annymous, but either way, you need to report this immediatley before a neighbor, child, or anybody gets seriously hurt.
The Animal Control and police department will start off by giving a warning, then they will start handing out tickets.
I would say, if this is the case, if you ever see the dog loose at anytime not on a leash, call them, and they will take care of it.
This is not something to wait on.

It's not the least bit cool when a dog of any size or type chases children, or roams free. I live in a free roam area, but if a dog of any size or type is caught attacking livestock, the owner of the livestock is entitled to to kill the predator.. .. period ... the end... I hate it when it comes to that. but at times, it has. No dog , or it's owner, has the right to threaten the health and safety over it's neighborhood. If , in your community, there are not laws, campaign to make some. A treasured pet is not allowed to run amock in the neighborhood. It is supervised at all times. **** those people. It is a shame , that the dog will probably suffer for their stupidity. There are discrete ways .

You really can't do anything that might not, in the end, cause you more problems unless the dog bites YOU. Animal control is not interested in second or third hand accounts where the person who was bothered is not complaining.
You have tried to talk to the guy and it didn't work. He's a jerk but you can't control him.
If the dog chased one of your kids and you complained to Animal Control, he might get fined. Again, if the child's parents aren't making a complaint there really isn't much you can do.
If your city has a leash law, you could video tape the dog running loose on your cell phone or on a video recorder, call animal control with your concerns and then show them the tape. They would likely have to fine him and that may at least curb the dog running at large on the street.

You're right that this is a problem. The owners are not responsible that they have their dog roam free and harm people in any way, even if it isn't serious. If the owners wont listen to you, then if your neighborhood has a mayor kind of person, consult with them. If the neighbors aren't nice and the dog is a HUGE problem, try calling up the ASPCA and they can train the dog to be nicer and find it more responsible owners. I hope this helps!!

Call animal control. I don't care how big a dog is, when it starts chasing children and drawing blood and the owners think it's funny...it's time to step in.
If that dog bit me, I'd sue them. The need to understand that this is a legal issue.

Definitely call animal control. After they have paid a few fines, then maybe they'll keep the animal in the house at least.

At least bust them on the Leash law...if you have one. If not, try to get one instated in your area.

I'm gonna go out on a limb & I sincerely hope that people don't think I am into hurting animals, but you should try using a spray bottle or a water pistol to shoot the dog with a stream of WATER. This is good for "re-programming" their minds & they will think twice before getting near you once you spritz them in the face a few times! If water doesn't work, then you start adding a little bit of tabasco or other chile powder product. You can even shake the chile powder directly from the can & mix it in with the water in the bottle or gun. This dog needs to learn & so do the owners. They may get angry, but it is better than having to turn in the dog to the humane society & they will just get it back OR get another dog & raise it to be the same way. It is a sad fact of these little dogs that people don't realize what a nuisence they turn their cute little living stuffed toys into! Good luck. :o)

You should call Animal Control EVERY time the dog is loose during business hours. Ask them what the laws are in your area and what your options are. When your neighbors have to start paying the fines to get him back, maybe they will stop letting him run loose. Anyone who sustains a bite wound should report it to Animal Control and to the Health Dept. If you keep reporting him to the authorities, it will become both expensive and a nuisance for him. Since he won't listen to polite requests, maybe hitting him in the wallet will help. Good Luck!!

Just ignore their poodle he'll grow out of biting, If he doesn't he'll have to be sent away or something like that. I hope this answer works. No pet owner's should laugh about people getting bit of their dog. I would definitely concern if i had kids who loved to go out of the house and play. I would hate to have a kid get seriously bit by a dog.

tell them that we are freinds but if he doesn't restrain his dog you'll have to call the law, and to be carefull of a big lawsuit if the dog really hurts somebody. He can't be to tough he owns a poodle
