I recently had a root canal on the last molar on left lower side. The tooth had cracked but the endontist was trying to save it. My appointment for a crown is one week away and yesterday I bit into -can you believe this- a piece of watermelon and that tooth broke. It's not broken off, it's just split. It feels like if I push it enough with my tongue, the back of it will completely break off. Will see the dentist Monday morning but what are going to be my options with this? I'm not sure due to the location if it can even be "rebuilt." At least I'm not in agonizing pain since the root canal was already done, but it is uncomfortable and sore. Thanks.

It all depends how far down the fracture is....if it was too far to start with they (i hope) wouldn't have done the root canal etc.

if the tooth roots are split entirely, there's no saving it...extract and get an implant. or not.

If the fracture isn't too bad, the dnetist can do a "post and core" this involved putting a metal post into one of the canal spaces, building up the mat'l around the post and preparing THAT for the crown. Once the crown goes on, (asssuming, again, there's not too much of a fx.) that should stabilize things.
Impossible to tell w/o looking right at it

good luck.

HI,
CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING A ROOT CANAL AND TAKING CARE OF YOUR TEETH. ONLY YOUR DENTIST CAN TELL YOU IF THAT TOOTH AND STILL BE SAVED. SOMETIMES HE CAN BUILD IT UP SO A CROWN CAN STILL BE PLACED. ALWAYS TRY TO SAVE YOUR TEETH INSTEAD OF JUST PULLING IT OUT AT THE FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE. ONCE YOUR TOOTH IS GONE, YOUR TOOTH IS GONE. THEN YOU HAVE TO START REPLACING IT. MORE TIME AND MORE MONEY. GOOD LUCK AND TRY NOT TO CHEW ON THAT TOOTH AND DONT PLAY WITH IT EITHER. GOOD LUCK.

Best to ask the sentist for suggestions. It needs to be made either more stable or to be removed, you cant live with a tooth moving around...;

The same thing happened to me and I had to have it pulled. But every dentist is different so , he may want to try something different.

IF THIS TOOTH CAN BE RESTORED WITH A CROWN, THEN THIS SHOULD BE DONE.AFTER SPENDING ALL THE TIME AND MONEY TO SAVE THIS TOOTH OUGHT TO BE RESTORED.
