How can I watch videos through firefox while surfing the web?

I surf the web but I want to watch a video through media player but I dont want a skin on top of the browser - id like ideally a plug in that has some sort of sidebar IN THE BROWSER that allows me to do this? Any ideas, im sure you used to be able to do this in explorer too??

you can view quicktime videos through the firefox browser, anything else will use the default player they will play in.

The main video sites as in Google Video allow the set to be played on line, no need for plug ins or downloads.
