Christianity split into Roman Catholic and Protestant wings during the 16th century Reformation. The basic areas of disagreement were: a) The authority of the church(catholic) versus the authority of scripture alone(Martin Luther and the protestants). B) Salvation by faith alone(Martin Luther) versus by faith, the sacraments, and penance(catholic church).

Catholics are Christians.

There aren't many differences in the way Catholics manage their personal relationships. One distinction, I suppose, is that divorce is verboten in Catholicism, although church annulments are there for those who were abused or lied to.

But there are many evangelicals who frown on divorce, too, so that may not be that much of a difference.

In terms of bringing up your children, there's a lot less emphasis on home schooling, and a lot more emphasis on community. parents who want to raise their children Christian would be much more inclined to consider a Catholic school than to home school. Community is a very important part of Catholic life.

For Catholics, the home is a kind of church. Pope John Paul put it this way:

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

Many Catholics are Christians...those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Not every member of a church is a Christian.
