The problem might not be with you, but all non-believers have had quotes tossed at them and when I attempt to discus quotes with quotes, the discussion always boils down to me being told that I'm taking the Bible out of context and I'm wrong, of context my argument, some Christians will shut it down.
I don't know if you are one of these people or one of the Christians that honestly enters into a discussion.

The Bible does give the answer to that.
2 Cor 2:15-16
5 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.

you cant make a point quoting from something that is physicaly and scientificaly proven to be impossible and false
