Go in the winter and freeze, go in the summer and fry, go in the spring and slog through mud, go in the fall and get all three.

It's only six weeks. Just deal with it.

The Army has what they call the "Summer Rush" they get tons of recruits (mostly the high school Split option soldiers) and they really have alot of issues with time constraints. They always have full companys and the training can really be fast paced. You will see younger soldiers if you go during summer.
During the winter you really gotta put up with the cold. Mornings can be awful when you go out running, but it does beat the summer when your sweating absolutly all the time.
Cons to summer Basic:
1. less individual time spent on each soldier (kinda feel cheated on the training sometimes)
2. HOT AND SWEATY!!!
3. Training needs to be posponed occasionaly because of heat categorys
Cons to Winter Training:
1. COLD mornings!!!
2. Wearing winter PT clothes and keeping them clean
3. Harder to keep the barracks clean
4. More tendancy to be sick during basic

What service's basic training are you discussing?

If it is the Air Force, it really does not matter that much as you are out of the elements most of the year while in San Antonio, Texas.

If you are scheduled to have Navy basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center (near Chicago) I would not want to be there in the winter. I visited the base a few years ago and the trainees looked very, very cold marching around in January.

If you have Navy basic training in San Diego it does not matter as the weather is always perfect.

The Army has numerous sites, none very exciting.

Marine Corps basic training is either int the swamps of the Carolinas so the summer is hot and humid. The California site has great weather.

Good Luck! Just remember that hundreds of thousands have gone before you and were successful. You can do it as well.

Summer

2006-11-25 09:08:17 · answer #4 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

Summer if you are used to the heat, winter if you are from a mild or cold climate. Why? Heat exhaustion will kill you. Flat out kill you. The more you move, the hotter you get, and you will move a lot in basic. In the winter you are moving too much to get oo cold for long, and even if you do you'll probably only get a little frost nip.

In general, I would recommend summer though. I just hate the cold.

I enjoyed training in the late fall. It got cold towards the end, But Im from Michigan so the cold doesnt bother me. Also if your training begins in November you get a Two week break for christmas exodus. So that might trip you up by letting you get out of focus. If I could do it over again I would go in the spring.

I'd say summer. (1) Its better to be hot and sweaty because you get stronger and work out more.(2) In the winter theres a big chance you'll get sick and doctors are Okay, but not the best. (3)Winters are horrible there, and the fact that the climate is at its worst.

I would of preferred the fall - its only about 8 weeks so
skip the extremes and go spring or fall.
Summer was hotter than Hades and 4am wake up didn't help much .

Winter time is better. Summertimes is too hot. How about going to college and doing something with your life. Go to College and show the world what you can do.
