I'm coming to NYC for a quick visit Dec 28-30, 2006. I grew up in Philadelphia so I have been to the city before. However, its been a while and I'm looking to do some interesting stuff. I'm gay and am interested in some gay-oriented stores but none of the bar scene. Any pointers on what to see and do? I'll be sure to see Rockafellar Center, Empire State Bldg, Times Square, etc.... But was looking for some other interesting and maybe off the beaten path type of stuff. I'll be staying at the Hilton at 529 Lexington.

If you go to the bars the most historic is The Stonewall. That is the start of the stonewall riots

Chelsea is much more gay than the East Village.

Anywhere on 8th Avenue between 14th Street and 23rd Street - there are plenty of gay-owned shops, restaurants, etc...

You should also definitely check out Christopher Street in the West Village. East of 7th Avenue South is the historic Stonewall bar and then West of 7th are more shops/restaurants/bars.

You might want to consider the East (Greenwich) Village. It has a high concentration of gay citizens and lots of shops, restaurants, etc. You've probably heard this before, tho. The SoHo & NoHo (south & north of Houston Street) neighborhoods are also extremely interesting for shopping, sidewalk cafes & people watching, but the Village is always my favorite. Have a good trip!

I did the Apple excursion Bus(you may like that one) at the same time as my family contributors got here vacationing me the following and that i took them sight seeing. even although that i did not experience like doing the vacationer ingredient with them, i ended up having a sturdy time. My absolutely grievance became we did it on an afternoon the position it became chilly outdoors and they had to perk up correct. i do not advise you getting on between the buses which have the right deck opened when you're coming at the same time as that's chilly out. It became rather absolutely worth the money and that i ended up having a tremendous time. you do not ought to purchase the tickets beforehand because in case you move to situations sq. they have the adult men status accessible promoting tickets to get on the bus. the way it worked after we did it? you've 2 days to apply the tickets once you purchase them. We were given off at different stops and with a view to get on yet another bus you ought to shop up with your cost ticket and receipt. everytime you want to get decrease back on in simple terms practice the cost ticket and also you're loose to experience. It became various of exciting and the guy who does the speaking on the bus kept us entertained. i'm a clean Yorker yet I nonetheless loved it (isn't that extraordinary).
