I need to buy a knife for a christmas present. Which should I get? They all look the same to me. Leatherman, Columbia River Knife and Tool, or something else, what is better?

I really like a gerber for myself. It is very sharp right out of the box.
And will hold an edge very good. Be Careful. Try to find one made
in USA.

I made my decision years ago by going to a large sportings goods store such as Bass Pro who had a monster selection and I was able to compare many right on the spot and get the input of someone who worked with them every day. Personally, use the Gerber for just one reason. I can snap open the pliers with one hand which makes them good for a fisherman such as myself. Personally, I don't think the multi-tools are that good as knives. If you need a knife, get a knife. The multi-tools are a compromise and heavy. However, despite that I still use one.
