I am wondering if I should break up with a new guy before I get too attached.
I am really crazy about him. I think he is so sweet, funny, smart, handsome & cool. If I could create the perfect guy it would be him, except for one big glaring fault. We're finally talking about big issues and it turns out he is an ardent card carrying Liberal Democrat Letist.
I dont mind what his beliefs are, I respect other beliefs and opinions.
But I also think for myself and am not affliliated with either political party right now. I think they both have problems.
I also am for social justice, animal rights & environment so I can't call myself a right winger. But I also can't call myself a leftist either. Im for small goverment and stuff.
My wonderful guy let me know that he was disappointed that I wasnt a strident democrat and let me know how much he hates republicans and won't even talk to anyone who doesn't fully support stem cell research without reserve. Im sad I feel like I should break up

Im devastated/ :( But I cant fake and pretend I'm a raging liberal when Im middle of the road. ::sigh::

I realised that he has so many great qualities and is such an excellent guy that there is no way in hell I am going to let politics break us up.
He is much more important than whether he's liberal or a democrat.

oh wow, I know what you mean... I've met people who are so passionate about this stuff... He certainly does sound like the perfect guy, but if he doesn't respect your views and he continues picking on your beliefs, it's NOT a good thing to keep hanging around with him. (He won't stop, and he'll be able to connect with other people maybe better than he would you...) And plus, you don't want him to break up with YOU because of his views, do you?
However, if you could express your displeasure in him just basing a relationship on politics, and if he LISTENS, then maybe you could stay together... but if he just disses you, yeah, don't make yourself deal with someone like him....

It's really your call on his character... whether he'll change or not... if he doesn't, don't hang out with him or else you'll feel miserable for a long time... and you'll regret not breaking up with him... but if he changes, and doesn't talk too much or judge you on your views, then it's alright... it's just terrible how some guys seem perfect but then have something "huge" standing in their way... don't get too attached if you know this won't work out!!! If you plan to break up, the sooner the better or else you'll feel worse! Good luck!!!!!!

Wow, he's not terribly open-minded to discussions and talking is he? My husband is a strict R except for abortion. I'm registered as an R but can see the D's sides of issues. We don't fight about it, we just discuss news and he doesn't agree with some of my stances and I don't agree with some of his. It never causes fights though.

In my opinion, you need someone who respects your right to have your own opinion, not take on his.

Whether you break up or not, it's not for me to say. Follow your head, not your heart in this matter.

kick him to the curb. why do you need to be in a relationship now anyways? everyone you date 'could be perfect...except' start going on dates with lots of people and find out what you like and don't like about them. there are plenty of better options out there when you are ready to get into a relationship

Liberal basically means evil.

Dump him before he shows you the specifics of this.
