no you have to take it to the post office, if it can't be put into your mailbox

There was a time in our wonderful history that the mail carrier would come up to the door, get cookies and milk, or coffee and chat for a while, picking up parcels. Those days for the most part, are gone. If you want to ensure your package gets to its destination - take it to the post office or other mail outservice. I have a close relationship with my mail carrier. There have been times I had a package or two that needed to be returned however, I would always ask HIM first if he could take it, or if he would be on the route on the day I needed it picked up - and he would tell me exactly what to do - most of the time leaving me a slip that I would attach to the package with all the information on it. Most carriers don't even stop - in the south - our mail boxes are right at the street level and they drive up and place mail in the box - and move on.

You can return a package as 'refused' if it is unopened, including the envelope. If you opened it, you have to pay for return postage. My wife just told me that. She is a mail carrier.

Priority shipments are the shipments that are picked up. You can schedule the pickup online at USPS. As far as regular shipments, I have to go to the post office to mail them.

You can get free pickup for any kind of mail by the USPS. They even sent out flyers for X-mas telling everyone about that!.
