Your first attempt at cooking?
A cup is a measure of volume. For water, 8 oz is a cup. You can pretty much say that 8oz of tomatoes will be a cup, at least close enough for anything but baking.

tomatoes are one of those things that can be adjusted. No need to be exact, just approximate. Would be either 1 or 2 tomatoes cut up depending on how much you like tomatoes.
