Get him his own toys. Take him for long walks and play with him. and also, keep your shoes out of his reach.

dog find stuff to chew on when they get bored....so after a long walk...he will be tired....get him a kong toy and other toys and bones....and alternate the toys once in a while so the toys will stay interesting to your dog....good luck!

whenever u know that your dog is going to go get a shoe...say no assertively when your dog is walking towards the shoe....

do not buy toys that look like shoes or give her old shoes to play with...your dog will start chewing any show because he wont know the difference between a new and an old shoe...for him its just something nice to chew on...

good luck!

I have a 7 month old golden retriever that had the same problem. Here is what i did that seemed to work extremely well:

I went to the pet store and found him 3 different types of toys, since i realized that he was getting bored with the only squeeky toy he had so far. Remember, dogs have extreme A.D.D. so you have to trick them.

Move your shoes to a higher level, and put the new toys where your shoes used to be. Soon, he should start to feel like he wants to chew on the toys instead of the shoes.

Try it and tell me if it works, it worked great with my pup.

First, make sure your dog has appropriate outlets for his chewing needs (ie dog toys, chewies). Puppies need to chew, especially while they are teething, and if you don't give them anything to chew on they will find something. It is best to have several chewing options....a soft chew toy, a rubber toy, etc...as some dogs are drawn more to certain textures. If your dog is a puppy and likely to be teething try freezing some of his toys. When you catch him chewing on something inappropriate, tell him no (or ah-ah, or some other sound that means you don't like what he's doing) and redirect his attention to an appropriate object. Second, keep your house picked up. The easiest way to keep a dog from chewing on something is to make it inaccessable to the dog. If you don't want the dog to chew on it, put it up where the dog can't get to it. When the kids are done playing with their toys, they need to put them away. For things that you can't put up (like furniture) you can try making them less appealing by using a spray such as bitter apple that will make them taste unpleasant to the dog.

You teach the dog that your shoes are off limits by always giving it an alternative to chew on when it gets hold of a shoe.
You simply take the shoe away with a "no" followed by "here" as you hand the pup one of it's toys.

Put your shoes up where your dog can't get them.

Yeah, I know you werent looking for a smart@$$ answer, but after owning my dog for a year and having him destroy some expensive shoes and work gear, I started learning that the best way is to keep it out of his reach because he always did it when I wasn't there.

And they say you cannot punish a dog for things he did more than x amount of minutes ago because he doesnt remember. Who knows?

Also, he may be doing this out of bordem or is angry at you for leaving him alone. I don't know when he tears up your shoes or any other circumstances, but that might be something to look into.

Well,
I think you would have to train your dog. Tell him/her right from wrong. If your dog understands what your trying to teach it, it would most likely stop chewing your shoes.

Try taking a brush and brushing them with diluted alum. You can get alum anywhere. It works on railings, furniture, door jams, and (speaking from awful chewing experience) house siding. You can get it at any grocery store, it won't hurt the dog or your belongings at all. (unless its something that can't get wet)
