Stinger missiles? They were all the rage during the 80s. The captured ones were taken back to Russia and used to upgrade the Russian SAMs. Stingers were one of the deciding factors in driving the "might" Russian military back across its border with their tails tucked between their legs. There are still hulks of russian helicopters and jets littering the Afghanistan countryside. I think the losses to stingers is 118 russin jet aircrafts 333 russian helicopters. Thanks for the link.

The world does change you know. Yesterdays enemy often becomes tomorrows bedfellow.

Why wouldn't the US have sent stingers to Afghanistan when the Soviets were tearing them up with their helicopters. The stinger was the perfect solution to a real problem at that time.

I'm betting that Russia was probably a bit upset that we sold those to Afghanistan. Kind of like how the US feels about Russia providing Iran with SAMs.

The photo's were probably propaganda for home consumption back in the Soviet Union.

No doubt to prove to the people back home that the Soviets were winning the war, despite the local militia's being armed with US Stinger missiles.

Nice research though pics are grainy............

Would you like to see a Russian MiG-25 "Fox bat that was buried in Iraq? Verified fact not propaganda....
Makes you wonder what else could be buried in the sand and without informants will stay that way until needed.
