Yeah, it shows. At it is spelled neUrotic.

As long as you don't poke you eye out with it, it may at least make your tracing more even as the lead does not widen as it gets used.

It probably depends on the person. For me, mechanical pencils are better because you don't have to sharpen them and they seem to be more comfortable to write with. I also think my handwriting is a little better with mechanical pencils. However, I do not think the type of pencil you use would change your academic performance, except it might affect how well you do on scanned tests. All my teachers have said that mechanical pencils tend to mess up the scanner because it counts answers wrong if it thinks two are filled in. Other than those tests, the type of pencil has nothing to do with academic performance.

Have you ever heard of Where There's A Will There's An A? In this video treatise, they tell you to study with the same writing instrument that you take your tests with. I have always used a mechanical pencil to take notes, do homework, then take the tests; like a good friend, the feel of it whilst in the midst of an examination does seem like a memory conduit to the answer. Neurotic, maybe, but talk to professional players in any sport...they talk a certain way or not talk at all; football player wrap their knees in only one direction with one width of bandage, etc. Psychological, I suppose, but, ask anyone who uses the same instrument, familiarity does help find the right answer.
