I've seen this before. The one I saw had a pool of blood around it's head. I guess that made it all the easier to determine cause of death.
There is always the alternative. There may be some friendly stray in your area that is trying to pay rent to move into your home (or the person whom has this bird on their patio).
There is another posiblity,.. an increase in birds slamming into things and dropping like flies could be a sign of an approaching Natural Disaster.
If you were looking for Symbolism,.. then it's dreams people consider and live Black Birds for if your talking about Symbolism in reality. Black Birds in reality in the USA indicates death, go to Europe and Asia and something magical or a Soul/Ghost/Spirit might be around.

Hm, I do not know if there is any symbolism behind seeing a dead bird. All it really means, was that the bird was sick/injured/old and it was time for the bird to pass away. Conveniently on your patio. Sorry!

Some areas of the country are concerned about West Nile or Bird Flu when they see dead birds lying around.
If you are concerned you can call the exchange service in your area to see if they think it could be an issue.
He may have just died of old age or flying into something.

probably it had a nest somewhere around the patio, got too old, fell off the nest and died. I saw a bird perching on a wire and then BOOM it fell and died for some reason in front of my eyes.

Why do people keep asking this? Is there something I'm missing?
It means the bird died. Probably hit your window.

The state I live in wants us to report dead birds to our local health department. They pick them up to check for the West Nile virus.
Here's the link to see about your state.
