we get nervous and may actually avoid you because we are so nervous. we may tease and, sorry to say even be a bit crass with it. but smiles and quick glances are the best hints as to if he likes you. also try talking to him and just barley graze him, you know touch him just slightly and see if he doesn't just freeze like a deer. if you really pay attention it will become obvious.

if he try to get near you in some places
if you think he likes you try it
ask him do something because if you don't another will come by and take your man
