i have recently moved and i suffer from deppression, but when i go to the doctors he made me feel guilty for being depressed. i know that it's not a good thing, but i can't help it. so i went to another dr - she was the same, i'm on my 5th dr now and i told the last one that i was harming myself - she practically gave me a lecture then a prescription for anti-depressants.

I live in Ireland and wonder if it's an irish thing? i used to live in glasgow and was never treated like that?

I wonder if you have Sad Affective Disorder, based on the weather. If you live in Ireland, your weather is much like mine...miserable in the winter!

I suggest you do the following; eat healthy--do away with sugar, it makes depression worse, watch your carb intake. Exercise 3-4 times per week at least. Some people take St. John's Wort, but I have heard Phencane works much better. It is a natural suppliment you can get in your health food store. Also, make sure you get a Vit. D tablet daily along with C, B-complex, E.

Doctors are useless when it comes to depression. You should be seeing a counselor, especially if you are harming yourself. That is not good. See one right away.

Yes, based on your description, that seems to be an Irish thing, because I received great help for my depression from the 1st doctor I saw, and I live in the good old U.S.A., where the health care is a pain.

It doesn't matter as much what doctor you have when you have depression as what type of treatment you respond to.

Some people are helped greatly by the 1st drug they take like I was, whereas some people can take 5 different types of antidepressants with none of them working.

If you find that the 2nd or 3rd antidepressant you take is ineffective, you should start looking for natural remedies for depression, like St. John's Wort, Ginseng, or Valerian root.

I'm not so sure myself about this next remedy I am sharing with you, but I recommend at least giving it a look.

I am talking about the ever controversial American health author Kevin Trudeau, who has written several best selling books on natural cures for myriad ailments, including depression.

His website is listed below, and he has references to products for depression treatment that may help you.

Whatever you do, I recommend going the natural way 1st, and if that doesn't work for an extended period of time go back to doctors and antidepressants.

May the good luck of the Irish and God be with you.

All Doctors are good. Dont listen to what they say, just get medication and try.
For depression there are no wide selection og medicines. Find the reason and avoid anything that affects your mind.

I have depression too...docs suck sometimes. Just get the meds you need and get out. Or you could try going to a psychiatrist for your meds - they're used to people like us, and understand that it's not a choice and isn't always controllable by changing your lifestyle.
