i have a problem with anxiety (for which i am about to seek treatment) but i'm feeling fairly lonely and abnormal about it. i know i'm not alone in this, but i think it would help if i knew others are/were going/went through the same thing. just let me know if you're out there. thanks.

I'm here.

48 yr old female, had my first full-blown panic attack at age 24.

Different people, different treatments. Some in here will tell you to stay away from any and all medications, others will tell you they're the only way to go. Some will tell you herbs are the way to go, others will tell you not to go near an herb. Still other people you meet will tell you just to pray and take warm, soothing baths. Bottom line : only you and your doctor should make the decision on how best to treat your anxiety.

Support groups can be helpful because you lose that lonely feeling ... you actually get to meet and speak with people who are going through what you are going through. There are also online support groups ... I wouldn't be surprised at all if you found several in Yahoo Groups.

You are not alone.

And you WILL feel better soon ... what you are facing now is the worst of it ... brighter days are up ahead, I promise.

Best of Luck to You !!!

34 year old female. First severe attack at age 16.
It is so scary. After a while you finally learn what is just an anxiety or panic attack. At first I was just sure I was going to die. I now manage to work full time and go on with my life but it isn't easy at all. I think this disorder has really made me a stronger person. If you'd like to chat more about it you can email me through my profile on here and I will give you my regular email address and yahoo messenger screen name. It can be comforting and reassuring talking to others who are going through the same thing. Also I am a member of a free online support group which has been really great. I can give you more info on joining that too if you want. Dont be afraid to get medicine to help you. I dont know what I would do without mine. Best of luck to you!

yes i have had it too. it can make u lonely and feeling abnormal. don't worry lots of people have problems with anxiety. life seems more stressfull today . wars, terrorists, bringing up children nuclear bombs etc this causes a lot of stess on people in general and anxiety is a result of this. clinical depression, or an organic illness that causes depression can also cause problems. seeking treatment is the best thing for you to do. i dint go for treatment for a long time and wish that i had gone sooner. don't put it off. most anxiety are not caused by mental illness, and hopefully just therapy and maybe medication may be best for you. the medication for anxiety can often be taken when necessary and it does not mean you have to be on it the rest of your life. good luck to you and i hope this helps.
