Anyone else notice how men are becoming less manly and how women are becoming more manly.

This has nothing to do with gays or lesbians.

You might think about revising your question, because the way it reads now, you state an opinion, and later use it as fact. Which is counterintuitive, and nonsensical if your trying to ask a question, because opinions cannot be facts. Anyway... I think in today's society, woman are seen still as the weaker of the two, although i know many woman who are quite stronger physically and mentally than many men i know. In the business world, woman are seen as too emotional to work high stress jobs, which, as a whole, i must agree with, although again, i must say, there are some women who are much more qualified, or much less emotional than many men i know. Though to be fair, i wouldn't trust a man to run a job requiring emotion, or social skills, because it's just not in us, again, for the most part. I did not live in the times that you mention, being a time when women were seen as inferior all around. So for me to make a true assessment, probably isn't too good of an idea, but here it is: I think in comparison, modern society has allowed woman to be more equal with men, in all areas, all though, again, there are exceptions on both sides. I do not think, however, that woman have surpassed men as a whole, or that men are leading the woman (if you look at this in terms of a race of some sort). The way society is set up, i don't think either are ever going to be better or worse than the other, just become more equal.

I think cultural values are just changing. This has always been the case. Thousands and thousands of years ago women were the ones who generally had more power in society than men; most cultures worshiped some kind of Mother Goddess who represented the earth. This changed significantly when Christianity began to spread throughout the world because it was a male-based religion.

Fifty years ago if a woman worked for UPS she would have been the subject of much negative attention. However, because we've been through the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s, it has become far more acceptable for women to take on traditional "male" roles and vice versa. Right now I think we're seeing a shift back to older ideals. Women will always be feminine and men will always be masculine by virtue of their genders, but their expected roles will change as the years go on.

Men aren't becoming women, because if they were, there would be negligible violence against women and children. Women are not undergoing sex change operations and becoming men either. They are just overcoming the difficulties that made them vulnerable and submissive to men all these years. Most importantly their emancipation has led them to leapfrog over men's traditional control tactics of emotional blackmail and religious fundamentalism. Men are not able to accept these developments so they keep accusing women of losing their femininity and justify brutal actions by hiding behind the excuse of "maintaining social order."

I think it's normal and healthy for people to have mixed personalities and experience the full range of human behaviour and emotion...rather than restricting themselves based on the arrangement of skin between their thighs.

I also think that manliness is considered more serious or important than feminity (consider that the opposite of "manly" is "girly", not "womanly") and so if both genders can embrace masculinity/feminity, they will be viewed more equally.

Did you know that psychology studies show that assertiveness is considered unattractive in women, even if it's for self-defense?

My point here is that our lives and personalities shouldn't be so heavily determined by our genitals.

And I think they still largely are.

I think it's due to people finally realizing that it's okay to be ALL of themselves. I believe each of us has a masculine and feminine side and now with our society becoming so "open" to all kinds of "crazy stuff" people are feeling more free to be who they are.
There's nothing wrong with a guy caring a lot about how he looks or cutting his salad before he eats it, haha (my ex did that), and there's nothing wrong with a girl wearing boy's shorts and doing finish carpentry for a living (haha, that's me). I like who I am, the feminine and masculine side of me in one.

You've been watching too much television. I assure you, gender stereotypes are still in play 110%. And what's manly and what's feminine anyway? To me they're very subtle differences....certainly not as pronounced as people make them out to be.

Men are from earth and women are from earth. =)

There is nothing wrong with that.. I think it's great to have both in one person, it makes for better understanding something about the other sex that you normally wouldn't...
