Supposedly, they went to Hell. Christ went to Hell and rescued them during the three days between his death and resurrection.

If you will but look at Gen. 2:7, you find a soul is not something that was given to man but was something that man became with the combination of the body or dust of the ground and the breath of life. Man became a living soul. Nowhere does it say man was given a soul. When a man dies, the soul is dead as there is no more breath in the dust or body. Jesus was very plain about what happened when you die as you will see if you read about Lazerus and where Jesus went to wake him from his sleep. The apostles did not even understand fully till Jesus said plainly, Laserus is dead but i go that I may wake him. We get our reward when Jesus comes back for His people. The ones He takes with him back to Heaven will get their reward then and the rest will get their reward a thousand years later when He will bring the city New Jerusalem down to sit on this Earth and the dead will be raised that did not go with Him before. They will try to take the city and will be burned up in the fire of Hell at that time and will be turned to ashes. Do the study at the site below and you will be able to understand much better.

The souls who were Jews are in heaven. Back then Christianity didn't ecxist (*Sorry dont know how to spell that) so Judasim was considerend (or that) Christianity (In God's view) The people who didn't beleive God ecxisted (Again, sorry.) are in hell. But before Christ, there was Abraham's Bussom, a place of comfort for the Jews, but they could see hell, and hell could see them. After Christ died, he went to hell to take all those people out of Abraham's Bussom and put them in heaven, then went to heaven with them. I think. I'm twelve, I don't really know the whole story. It's something around those lines.

If you understood the meaning of soul (aka Atman in Hinduism) in its entirety... you would not put up this query! The system of god does not work like that!

At that time of the Big Bang ... the total Cosmos is but the size us of half a thumb ... everything we call and know as Brahmaand (the mighty Cosmos)! Something unbelievable from the point of view of a common man ... yet, it is a true fact of life explained in detail in the Bhagavad Gita also.

This size of the Cosmos ... a cluster of pure energy ... the combined forces of all purified Atmans souls in the Brahmaand (Cosmos) ... is what we know as God, the Almighty Creator. The total sum of all purified Atmans souls at a given period of time remains constant and this we designate as the power of God, the Almighty Creator.

Every Atman soul is but a miniscule form of the bigger Atman soul, the Parmatman ... God, the mighty Creator himself. Atman soul is but a part of the puzzle ... God, the Almighty Creator being the whole puzzle. No clustering of thoughts ... everything is absolutely clear! Read more here- http://www.vijaykumar.com/atman_and_definition.html

Christians say that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Therefore during the thousands of years before he was born....? I haven't heard any excuses for that one yet. Religion makes statements that sometimes come back to haunt them. For instance they claimed that clergy receive a calling from God until it was discovered that so many are gay and pedophiles and people realized that God must be a pervert.

Before the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins there was nobody that went into heaven but they went into paradise which was in the center of the earth. Paradise was across a great gulf fixed from hell. Paradise was also called Abraham's busom and all that did what God told them to do by faith were in paradise and all that didn't were in hell. Luke 16: 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; Luke 16: 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. When Jesus died on the cross there was one thief that believe He was Lord and ask Him to remember him and the Jesus told him that today he would be with Him in paradise. Luke 23: 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. After three day, all that was in paradise were resurrected and went into heaven after the Lord's resurrection.

According to Dante they went to hell.

Hey! Why do I get a thumbs down for that? Has no-one read Dante's "Inferno"?
He talks about his visit to hell and all of the circles of hell. The Romans and Greeks (ie Plato etc) were all in hell because they were born before Christ and therefore not Christian.

In effect this suggests that hell doesn't exist and is a medieval invention......invented by Dante.

Some of you guys need to read!

PS, for Julian, Dante's "Inferno" was a work of fiction. That's why its called The Divine Comedy.

Those who died, before Christ came to earth as a man, were under the old law (they sacrificed animals for the atonement of their sins.)
