The Bible likens death to sleeping, so those who have died, are still sleeping in death, and are awaiting a ressurection back to life. This will be done by Jesus after Armegeddon is over. Then there will be a resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous. Then after the 1000 year reign of Jesus(without Satans influence) has ended and Satan and his demons are let loose for a little while, those who have been brought back to life, will then be judged as to whether they remain on the earth forever. The meek ones who survive God's final war will also be judged during that time. The Bible says that some will unfortunately side with Satan and will be detroyed along with him. That is the final judgement. Those who prove their loyalty to God and his righteous government will then live forever here on a cleansed earth free from all wickedness, sorrow, pain or death.

"For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea."-- Habakkuk 2:14 (ASV)

This is where a lot of people have trouble with so-called Judgment Day. There is the question of what could possibly be the purpose of holding the dead in limbo until then.
Where are they? Nobody knows. Just hanging out somewhere waiting.
It just baffles a lot of people and I know, I know, there are those who say, well, that's God's plan.
That isn't good enough. There has to be more to it than that. Surely, if there is a God, there has to be some rationality to this whole thing besides the religious rituals we are expected to observe in order to get to heaven.

to the grave. the judgment is going on right now in Heaven beginning with Adam and Eve and continuing with this age of people. It is called the pre Advent judgement as it is before or pre second coming. Advent is coming. Then when we get to Heaven when Jesus comes, we are given the books and they are opened so we can judge for ourselves that those that did not make it was given every chance but just did not want to be there. that is the millinium that is in Rev. 20. At the end of the thousand years, the dead that were left behind on Earth will be raised and then will be destroyed by fire when they try to take the city of New Jerusalem. Someone was telling you a little fib.

Jesus went to release "the captives" while his body was lying dead in the tomb for 3 days. This was one of the prophet Isaiah's Messianic prophecies, and was most certainly filfilled in Christ.

Those that believe in "soul sleep" are simply mistaken.

Thanks to Jesus, the good are alive in heaven right now, and the evil are alive in hell.

On judgment day, all will know the justice and mercy of God, as all the hidden things will be revealed.

In the mean time, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

God cannot abide sin that`s the first thing, secondly we cannot enter His pure presence with even the stain of sin upon us, just as oil and water cannot mix, when we die we do not automatically enter Heaven but go to a place for instant judgment that will determine if we need cleansed of the stain of sin and this will be our state or place of holding untill the final judgment of all human kind.
however baptized babies will enter Heaven after death, because of their purity and innocence.

ALL of this stuff is just beliefs and concepts. Direct experience (enlightenment) resolves these questions. Everything else -- no matter how many holy books or 'revelations' people point to -- is just speculation and belief. Just think of an Islamic terrorist who is 100% sure that he's going to get rewarded in heaven for blowing up people -- despite how obvious it is that he's wrong, his mind is convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that what he's been told is true (and he typically has all these experiences - dreams, weird synchronicities, etc. -- that 'proves' it to him).

Thats a myth. The bible terms it as a sleep where we know and are oblivious to anything. No Christian should be afraid to walk in a graveyard for the dead.

Dan 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

God said something about some kind of "holding zone", divided between the Christians and the unbelievers.

Mankind is always telling us man made stories about what happens. How many different stories do we have? Only believe things that can be proven. Which means don't believe any of them.
