My two-year-old sits in a booster seat at the table, or else she stands in a regular chair to eat. She's been given the option to sit without a booster since just before the age of two. What you are looking for is balance. If your child can balance him/herself, you can try sitting the child on a chair (use thick phone books to add some height to the seat). If your child cannot balance, but you wish to seat her at the table so she can feel like part of the family and learn how to behave at the table, there are booster seats with and without lap belts. Some of the boosters come with removeable trays, so that you can sit the child off to the side a little if you want to.
As far as moving to a regular bed, again, the question is one of balance and movement. Does your child move around too much in his/her sleep? When you go in to check on him/her, is the child's face pressed up against the railing? If the little one moves too much, you should stick to a crib or toddler bed for a while. Generally my children have switched to toddler beds between 15 months and two years of age, and then to regular twin beds between the ages of two and three.
One way to start a child on a regular bed is to lay the mattress directly on the floor, and have them sleep there. Even if they do roll off the mattress, it's not nearly as far a fall as it could be.
To be fair, some children don't outgrow rolling off the bed until they're big. My dad had to use bed rails until halfway through grade school.

RE:
When is the average time to move a child from a highchair to a normal chair at the table? And what about cots?
What age did you move your child from a highchair to a normal chair?
And from a cot or cotbed to a normal bed? And did you use a guard rail?

we were all in normal beds with no side rails at a year.
About the same for sitting at the table in a booster seat. ONce we could reach the table and the plate we sat on the chair like everyone else.
i think most people wait until two for those things though. BUt we're a family of progress.

we bought a highchair that turned into a table and chair, and she was using that before she turned 1, she's 2 now and still using it (purely because we don't have a dining table yet) but is quite capable of sitting at grandmas table. We've only just put her into a toddler bed with a guard rail for now, will take it off next week and see how she gets on, but so far so good.

I moved my children from highchairs to booster chairs around a year old. My son started eating at the table in a regular chair (non-booster) at about 2.5 - 3. If I had to do it over again, I would skip a highchair altogether and just get a booster seat that can strap to the chair. Then when they get to be around 2 and can use a plate, you just take the tray away. Then around 3, you let them move up to a chair.
Now, as far as a cot (which I assume is a crib?) to a bed. I moved my son at the age of 2. Just after his birthday. Definitely use a guardrail, because they will fall out of it for some time until they get used to it. I used the rail until he was almost 3.
My reccomendation on the bed is either move them up very early, when they don't know any better than to stay in bed OR wait until they are a lot older. Because moving my kid up at 2 was a nightmare! He got out of bed for HOURS at night!

High chair to normal chair at about 2 and a half.
Into big bed, our son was 2, and our daughter 18 months.
Did not use a bed rail for either, and only fell out of bed once.

when your child can climb up the cot and nearly get out you should put your child into a cot bed there is no age limit on this just when your child could climb out the cot and get injured. I used a rail for a little while then i removed it when my child was 2 and he has never fallen out. My child was sitting on a chair fron the age of 1 because his high chair changed to a chair that was high enough to reach the table but without the tray on . it was fron argos £20 it is a god send

My little boy is 17months, we got a small table & chairs from IKEA. He's just started sitting at it to eat so we've done away with the highchair, but he does sit at a table at nursery so I think it helps. He's still in cotbed though. Hope this helps
