wow, when did you last see your doc? Pain on coughing is not good. It MIGHT be just muscular pain from all force of the coughing,Or you might have pleurisy or pneumonia.
Ring your gp or go to an A&E.

You appear to be more concerned with the back than the cough.. What was determined to be the cause (diagnosis)? You indicate no age so would have to go by conjecture..... Did you have a lungs x-ray? May have to consider what is called "Walking pneumonia" or (if older) COPD, which acts like pneumonia and shows up on x-ray as pnuemonia.
One of the problems with persistant cough is, the ribs being forced out of their usual position.. This would be reflected in quite severe pain when taking a deep breath.. Other than that, there would be exceptional tightening of muscles along the spine, which would pull on the vertebrae and cause some nerve irritation and as with any injury, swelling of the tissues. Reducing the limits of motion, just to protect the area. Also can create considerable pain.
Would suggest seeing a doctor of Chiropractic to alleviate some of the symptoms..also have him take a chest x-ray to determine what your lung or bronchial condition really is.

sometimes you can get a cough that starts from a cold/allergy/virus & then once you start coughing you end up triggering a reflex that makes you keep coughing...
if you still have a bad cough & the doctor says there is nothing wrong w/ you , ask if it is appropriate for him/her to prescribe some Tessalon Pearles- they stop the cough reflex & you should be a lot better.
The back pain is from the overuse of your muscles in the back & in between the ribs from coughing. That should go away within a few days.. .use some heat on it for 15-20 min 2-3 times a day.

There is a virus that is going around...
In some people it can take up to a month to get over, or longer! I dont know why, but its "there"...
Get some cough syrup to help you stem the flow of coughing...(if your bringing anything up, then its a good thing because your getting "rid" of dangerous fluids that can do damage to your lungs if it stayed in there).
A lot of doctors are prescribing inhalers for the cough, (steroids), so that it brings the phlem up, (thats whats causing your cough in the first place).
Your stomach muscles are cramping because your coughing so much... get warm compresses or a heating pad on your belly when your sitting down, to help with the cramps.
I wish you well..

Constant coughing can be caused by many things. This can make your body ache as it pulls alot of different muscles. Try hot drinks. this can stop the iritation in your throat.
I suffered for years with a bad cough. Have found out it is because i have over active sinus problem. i have to keep blowing my nose and take a nasal spray to keep my nose dry. If you have had a cold this could be your problem. Also ask doctor for second opinion if you are still conserned. Some colds can last for wks

I can relate to your problem.
A few years ago I coughed so much and so hard I fractured a rib.
So you have puled a muscle in your back and all you can do is
slowly move , stretch from side to side and slowly work your
back muscle . it will get worse , the muscle will stiffen up and
be sorer. If you don't move around .
And take Tylenol or what ever you take .
sometimes muscle rubs are good . Such as Ben Gay or a product of that sort.
Using a heating pad will ease the pain. Low heat .

If you are not happy with your treatment and the diagnosis you have been given, ask your doctor to refer you to an orthapaedic consultant. You may have to press for this especially if the doc thinks there is nothing untoward. Consultants have more knowledge and experience of bone, joint, etc., related conditions and will also send you for the various tests such as an MRI scan in order to determine the exact cause of the problem. The results of the scan are more informative than just an X ray. You can then be given the correct treatment for your condition. Good luck, and remember you sometimes have to push your GP into referring you to a consultant.

When you cough or gag it really agrivates your back (at least mine). What i do is soak in a hot bath with some muscle relaxer bath soap. Or if that doesn't help try putting ice on it. If it progresses another week, the cough and back pain, go see the doector again, or a different one.

Second out the opinion of more doctors.
My best mate had to go to 7 doctors in 3 countries before 1 of
them finally said he had cancer and he died 2 weeks later.
im sure you dont want to get into that mess.
Doctors are just humans after all who managed to get 'A' grade averages. They are not as good as the doc on Star Trek.
