In other words:
Is god a hypocritical tyrant who tells his followers "an eye for an eye," but then goes out and takes an entire leg for a toenail, or does he hold himself to his own standards of justice?
I don't think there is a lake of fire or eternal torture. I was taught that the wages of sin were death; and eternal life - whether in paradise or hell - is not death. The condemned are destroyed; removed from creation in it's entirety - no afterlife at all, save for a temporary resurrection for the moment of judgement.

$100,000 cash for anyplace that says what you said is true!! Nobody that is doomed to Hell will burn for all eternity and I challenge anyone to show one place it ever says such a thing. there are over two hundred places the bible teaches that you will die, be burned up, be turned to ashes, be no more. Not ONE place will you find it ever said that anyone will live for eternity but for those that are in Heaven with God. Show me just one and you will be a lot richer by tonight.

Actually this is one of the most accepted falsehoods about Christianity. Yes you will burn until you are completely out of existance but you will not burn forever and ever.
If that was the case then you would have immortal life - though not a pleasant one. And immortal life is a promise to the saved in Christ

If humans serve an eternal sentence in the Kingdom of Fire, then God deserves no worship.
Personally, I feel if there is a Hell, it's a temporary state of ultimate torture where one is punished--however, punishment does end.

The Word of God says that it is an 'everlasting torment'. It makes no difference what we think. We will try to read too much into anything we wish to contort. But that does not change what God says. May God Bless

You have your entire life to chose God or Satan. If you get tossed into a lake of fire it was your choice.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
