As a police officer, could I get into trouble with the force(job) if I slept with someones wife even if I know she is married and it is consentual? Could it backfire on my career is what I want to know? If so, what could be the consequences?

It depends on your department. A lot of departments don't care unless it affects you at work. Some are totally against it and you will lose your job. There is a good chance your department has an unofficial position on the subject. It is wrong though, so I wouldn't recommend it.

You can be sanctioned by internal affairs, and the consequences would be the same as if you were a civilian. If the husband finds out, you could possibly be beaten up , or killed, along with the unfaithful mistress. It has happened a lot like this in police circles, because police officers are armed, and in the heat of passion, they lose their head, and are not thinking clearly. If you are thinking about doing this, FORGET IT. If you already done the act, pray no one finds out and stop this relationship IMMEDIATELY.

If you don't lose your job, you should. Adultery is against the law in most states even though a rediculous amount of people accept it as "normal" behavior. A Police Officer swears to uphold the law, you can't do that and break it at the same time. Police ethics are a very large part of being a Police Officer. Without them, you should'nt be one. But, even if you make it that far, you probably won't be one long.

in Texas you can get in trouble. not long ago the show cheaters caught a police man having an affair with a married woman. the wives husband busted them with TV camera rolling. the police man was fired. CNN and fox news even got a hold of the story.....be sides as a police officer you are held up to a higher moral code then the rest of us. you must of missed that class..............

For sure... My best friend got fired for sleeping with a married woman. They fired him on conduct unbecoming a police officer and even the union couldn't get him his job back.

If you were a poplice officer you would not be asking this question. You would have been given instruction on interpersonal relationships at the onset of your service.
Yes it can backfire.
Your career could be in jeopardy and at the very least it will be on your service record.
So either don't do it, or stop doing it.

Well, here in NC, the sheriff of the Capital county had an affair with a married woman. It came out a week before the election and he still won in a landslide.
In other words, its who you know and who you are, not what you do.

Each department is a bit different. Some guilds can protect you and some can't. Worse case is to have me get called by your department to investigate. Then it turns from dismissal to charges. Tell her to get divorced and then re-engage.

as an officer you took an oath to uphold the law, what you are proposing is unethical and since laws are based on ethics, it would be logical to assume that sleeping with someones wife is considered illegal, adultery.

one of our local police officers slept with the captain's wife.The officer resigned the next day :)
