We already know the answer to that... for the same reason everyone fears death. No one (no matter how much they holler otherwise) KNOWS there is an afterlife. Beliefs just aren't that comforting when the end is near.

Just because you believe you're going to heaven doesn't mean you're ready to die, no matter what age you are. I personally feel like I'm going to go to heaven, but I'm not ready to go yet! I still have a lot of living to do, raise my children, grow old with my husband...etc! And I'm sure that many elderly people feel that there is still so much they haven't done! Growing old doesn't equal giving up and preparing yourself for death. Anybody who loves life is going to fight to stay alive!

Deep down inside, we all know (even the very religious) that we are bound for the void....non-existance. It's part of our genetics to fight for survival, and people even want survival after death. It's part of our biology.

Because they want to be with their family and friends as long as possible. Even though Heaven is wonderful, it is still a lone journey. ( and some people won't even go to a restaurant alone.)

To get the best answer we would need to ask one of them. But maybe it is because they love their families here on earth and are not ready to part with them just yet. Maybe they feel that there are still some things they can do and accomplish for the Kingdom of God. May God Bless

FFor the very same reason a teen-ager in a car accident, or a mother dying in childbirth does. Death is a cessation of this life's function. It is not the welcome to the next life's reality.

because they realize that they wasted their time on things that really don't matter and have unresolved issues and regrets. Accepting that is the hardest thing to do.
