I have received notification of wining a lottery from:

Notifying me that:

"This is to inform you that you have won a prize money of EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND US DOLLARS($800,000) for the month of November,2006 Lottery promotion which is organized by YAHOO LOTTERY INC & WINDOWS LIVE.

How do I know that it is not a fake?

99.9% of the time these Emails are scams. Is it not amazing that out of the billions of people on the internet they came up with your email address. Did you ever enter a Lottery in the UK? I didn't think so. This has got scam written all over it.

It's a fake. Did you enter a contest? It's a fake. Why would a UK lottery pay you in dollars and not pounds?

P.S. Ishort, what's with the other 0.1% ? You mean someone might actually notify you by email of $800k? I think you'd at least get a registered letter.

Its a play on words. What they are actually doing is a promotion in order to get you to use your credit card to play the daily lottery. However, they word the Ad in such a way to get you excited. Most people misunderstand and go ahead and disclose their credit card info and as a result, daily deductions are made from their accounts for lottery games.
My advice to you is to ignore it.
