I'm sorry but I'm in my mid 20s and still don't understand the concept. I see and date a lot women and have gotten in trouble in the past for doing so, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't view a girl who I've dated a girlfriend until 1-6 months of dating PLUS one of us ask the other to be EXCLUSIVE. When I say 1-6 months of dating, I am assuming that we see each other only once every week or two. Am I wrong? What's your take on this issue? Is there a guideline? Why didn't our moms teach us this rule?

I agree that it's when you've agreed to be exclusive. I understand though why girls might get upset with you. No one wants to feel like they are in a competition and they might feel that if you're seeing other girls at the same time they are not getting your full attention.

Communicate: If you let the girl know up front your definition of a girlfriend, she can make a her own decision about how to continue in the relationship.

Girlfriend literally means a friend that is a girl. This definition changes if physical or emotional intimacy is involved

Disclaimer: Treat people with respect and you can't go wrong.

i think a girlfriend is when you are exclusive, and care enough to be with her all the time or at least more than once every week. and moms don't tell you because you can figure it out on your own.

She becomes your girlfriend when you talk to her about it and you both decide that you want to be in an exclusive relationship.

some moms do!! i think 1-6 months is enough time to know if she is the one for you. if you ask her to be your woman she is then your girlfriend if she says yes. thanks
