Dogs are hyper for a verity of reasons. The best thing you can do is give it lots of exercise and attention. Don't support the hyperness by only playing with it when it's hyper, you need to train it to calm down to get attention, then play with it. Only giving it attention when it is hyper is a bad habit for you and the dog.

It depends on what is causing your dog to not be calm. Is your dog real hyper, or real nervous? What things do you want to see your dog calm down about?

Well if your dog is always very hyper than the best thing is to give it lots and lots of excersice. I fit just gets very hyper moments sit down with the dog and find out what is making it hyper and take it away, and then let it get more excersice. Hope this helps!!

Extra exercise. Some breeds need more than others. You may also want to look into obediance classes. I know that the Pet Smart and Petco stores offer classes.
