It's not talking about a timeline - it's talking about priorities.

The idea is for nothing else to be as important as God.

You are totallly clueless. God forgives our past sins through our repentance of those sins to Jesus when we accept Jesus as our Savior. From that point on make no mention of any other Gods. Before the lost person did not have their spritual eyes opened to God's truth. To go back to what you did before you were born again, then God shall be "miffed" and His wrath shall be upon you.

"Thou shalt honor thy mother and father" so what is the point of even being a Christian since we all have fallen short of that one and he'll be miffed you've dishonored them?

I apologize for the sarcasm, but come on . . . . .

In a word . . . . . . .forgiveness

It's not saying before in regards to time. It means don't idolize something that takes away from God's glory. Basically, it's saying He'd be miffed if you watched tv instead of reading your Bible, knowing full well that reading your Bible is what God wants you to do.

He will not be miffed if you convert to him...actually i bet he will be overjoyed that you did but once you convert don't put others gods before him ....it can be like another person, or television, or anything that is a bigger priority than him

As one intelligent to think of such a question, you already know is a word w/ multiple meaning. Temporal would be nonsensical since all would have sinned even before they had heard the law. The word is positional as in 1st place.

He wants you to put the false gods behind you. leave them in the past. He knows you've gone a whoring after them. He'll still accept you, but not with them.

Umm, the verse says "Thou shalt NOT HAVE Gods before Me", so you might want to edit that a bit.

To answer you, I'll ask you to please check the tense of the command, it's present tense, not past.

this statement is referring to importance and priority in your life, it has nothing to do with having other gods during the course of your life, if it were, then there would be no conversions ever! this just simply means that once you have accepted Christ as your savior, then He is to be top priority, in other words, if it comes down to following Christ or man, you will always choose Christ first!

Means you should put Him first in your life, not other gods like tv, idols, and such. anything we put between us and God is a god to us. Need to put Him first and foremost in our lives and He will be more than glad to forgive you for the former gods as long as you leave them off and worship Him.
