I am a nail biter and I bite my nails when I am in deep thought. I only bite them when I am thinking hard, but the problem is...I am a "critical thinker" and I often find myself thinking "hard" more than anything else. My nails grow, and tend to get pretty long, but then something occurs and I find myself stressfully thinking and then I bite them...I don't know

Nerves...

I have to actually keep my nails done to prevent biting them but then I go for the inside of my cheeks so I actually alternate and keep the tips off for a few months and then put them on again when the nails get too bad... It is gross either way, but not something I would give up to smoking or over eating...

I bite my nails out of nerves or stress. I know it's a disgusting habit, I have tried quitting but it's a lot harder than one may think.

There are two medical viewpoints on this. !. The person is very nervous. And, 2. He has a chemical problem in his body that is satisfied by the nails.

Most of the time they are nervous, but other times for some people, its just a bad habit.

I have always heard it is because of nervous energies. I really don't know but my son does it. It gets on my nerves to see him do it. Since he was small(he is 20 now), whenever I see him do it I always get onto him about it. May God Bless
