Here is a website where there are people with the same problem: I have copied and pasted the questions and answers to hopefully give you some insight:
Bad Taste in Mouth [posted 11/24/98]
Question: I have a bad taste in the back of my mouth. gargling does not help much.I feel like there is phlem in the throat that I cannot expel by coughing, hacking etc., my tongue is coated on the backspeech is fine. No detectable wheezing or breathing difficulty. I do a lot of carpentry work and am exposed to wood dust often. I've had allergy problems this spring (sinuses), but their fine now.
Answer: Several possibilities. First a bacterial infection of the tongue or stomach. This can be treated by using prilosec/an antibiotic and pepto-bismol. Second, reflux acid which is affecting the tongue-treated by zantac, prilosec etc. I doubt your work has much to do with it.
Bad Taste in Mouth
Question: I have had this pretty severe bad taste in my mouth for a while now. It tends to come and go. The last time I had it, it lasted about a week and then I did not get it again for about two months. Now, I have it again and it has already lasted about four days. I feels like I constantly have a copper taste in my mouth. What I was wondering is if it could be a result of a post nasal drip. If you have ever heard of such a problem, could you please let me know if there is something that I could do to get rid of this problem.
Answer: There are several possibilities. First, ensure your teeth are flossed twice a day and brushed 2-3 times a day. Gum disease is the leading cause of this problem. Second, a post nasal infection or sinus infection could cause this symptom complex-not just a drip. Thirdly, occasionally systemic problems like hepatitis or medications you are taking will produce this metallic taste. If it persists after the dental care, see your physician.
Mouth
Question: I'm a 48 year old male who's very healthy with one notable exception. Within the past 30 days I've developed a very strange and unpleasant taste in my mouth that won't go away. I haven't changed my diet, and have had a dentist check for fillings that may be leaking, but was told that it's not the cause. It's virtually constant (24 hours a day) and goes away only for a moment while I'm eating. It can be best described as metallic tasting. The smell of my breath hasn't changed and my girlfriend says she can't taste it when she kisses me. It's very unpleasant and I don't know why it's occurring or how to get rid of it.
Answer: Several possibilities here. First have your physician check your liver enzymes and other tests to ensure that you haven't had sub-clinical hepatitis or any liver inflammation. Occasional people have a diverticuli which is located about the Adams Apple. This is called a Zenker's Diverticuli (sack) and can be surgically repaired. They tend to have food collect here which causes the bad taste and odor. Some patients have an infection in their stomach caused by Helicobacter Pylori. This can be treated by your physician and is a fairly common cause of this complaint.

I am so sorry for your pain.... I know it is painful. If you are able to take an ibuprofen product (advil, motrin, etc.), try that. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory as well as pain reliever. Additionally, you can use anbesol on the area. At the drugstore, you can find it in either the dental or the baby section. Just a small amount will numb the area. I don't suggest using it long term, but since you are going to the DDS tomorrow, using it tonight should be okay. One last thing, the oldest home remedy ever, warm salt-water rinses. Salt water is very soothing and has natural healing qualities. You can also mix a little bit of hydrogen peroxide in with the saltwater....if the tooth is part of the way in and food/bacteria has built up under the gum that is still over the tooth, you may have a condition called pericoronitis. It gets very red, swollen and is painful. The peroxide will help "bubble out" the bacteria and will not harm you as long as you don't swallow it. A WORD OF PRECAUTION: DON'T DO THIS AFTER YOU HAVE THE TOOTH REMOVED. (The peroxide).... I hope you feel better soon. Sadly, the tooth will probably need to come out and that is not pleasant, either. If I were you, I would have the DDS take a panoramic film to see if any other wisdom teeth are getting ready to poke through. If so, have them all taken out at once and get it over with!! My thoughts and prayers will be with you!

The bad taste certainly may come from your teeth or gums if you have an infection but you don't mention that in your question so I would assume you have no oral pain.
If that is the case then the bad taste is coming from your stomach. You may be eating some thing that is causing gastric distress - try taking some tums or other anti-acid products and see if the bad taste goes away.
I love certain Koren food since I was stationed in Korea in the service. The one I love is Kimshi - it is a cabbage that is highly spiced - my wife tries to sit at another table when I eat it. It does cause a bad taste in my mouth for a couple of hours - So see if that bad taste comes after eating or after eating a specific type of food.
The final issue is - are you under a lot of stress and could you be developing an ulcer?

If all you're going to do is write "see a dentist" why do you bother, people? I'm sure this occurred to this person...why do you write this, esp when three other people already have.
That said, hon, as a dentist, i would have to (gulp) SEE you to look at this.
A couple possibilities:
1. You have an abcess th' this is usually associated with a tooth that is or was painful and you don't mention that in your history.
2. You could need to floss OR even brush your tongue. a lot of people miss this; you might try a tongue scraper (avail at many drug stores) or just get your brush on the back of your tongue; lots of nasty stuff can get back there and many people neglect it. it's also right under your nasopharynx so you're likely to smell/taste that area.
3. You COULD have cryptic tonsils - this is a condition wher ethe tonsils have little pockets in them and they catch bits of food which hang out and decay back there. I have this condition and it's sometimes so annoying I think about having them surgically removed! What may help is gargling w/ mouthwash very DEEPly. Throw your head back and instead of gargling w/ a "gggggghhh" sound say, "aaaaauuughhhhh" or "ogg." (this is hard to demonstrate NOT in person!) the effect is, it vibrates the tissues WAY at the back of your mouth.... you almost want to be ABOUT to swallow the rinse. but not quite.
good luck

There are a number of problems that cause a bad taste in the mouth, and some of them need a doctor's attention. You didn't say what kind of bad taste.
Smoking, some vitamin deficiencies, certain medications, some diseases, infections, etc. can all cause a bad taste.
This has persisted for four weeks so I would advise seeing a doctor.

Maybe you need to consider chelation therapy?
Sounds like the effects of heavy metals that can build up in your system over time.
Zinc and iron especially, will cause a horrible taste in the mouth!
Go to a Doctor and ask about it...
Either that, or the same as above... Brush your tongue!

Have you ever had a root canal or cap put over your teeth? If so that would be your problem because I had the same problem. A good way that helped me was to rinse your mouth out with kinda hot/warm salty water. It will help PROMISE!
