I think the only way to accomplish less sleep is through practicing meditation. It is a well known fact that meditation reduces the need for sleep. It slows your heart rate, and metabolic functioning. Practitioners who meditate regularly 30 minutes a day require less sleep, report less stress and overall improved cognitive funtioning which is particularly useful for a student.

Sleep for 5 hours, but also allow yourself one 1-hour nap a day. If you can get used to that, then perhaps you can cut it down to 4 hours of sleep plus a 1-hour nap. Be sure and make up for lost sleep on the weekends by sleeping as much as possible.
Frankly, like the other posters, I don't think it's a good idea at all. You can work much more efficiently if you get that extra hour or two of sleep. Why try to model yourself on mistakes other people are making? Are you sure your friends are telling you the truth?

Look into what the people doing solo ocean trips in small boats do.. I read once how they get into this 45 minute/6hr sleep cycle and get by on 2 hours a night. They are out there for weeks and are dead if they sleep too much
When I was in college 30 years ago one of the biology teachers told me about a machine he had a home and it somehow let him get by on 2 hours a night. I've never heard anything else about this though.

I am a student too and all the studies show that good sleep makes you a better student. just try to have better time management - its harder than you think.
I used to stay up all night and I felt like ^$@#^& all the time. This semester I told myself I would get at least 8 hours of sleep a night and I feel amazing and I get so much more done, and the work is quality.
I had to move my alarm across the room so i would have to GET UP to shut it off. on test days i set twoi alarms.
Try eating an apple in the morning instead of coffee, it works better to wake you up-no joke.

Your brain won't work without sleep, to make less sleep won't help your studies like you believe. And on a school night I sleep 9-10 hours, and on weekends i sleep like 12 hours!!

well im not a college student or anything but at my freind's house whenver we stay up realllyyy late we just get some pickles, ibc cream soda, chocolate, and a whole lot of other stuff.. so reaally you should try to eat a whole lot of calories or watever and if that dont work well another reason we stay up is that there are actually 2 ppl and we never stop talking so i hopes this helps xD

Reducing sleep would hinder your studies, not help them. Without adequate rest you will not learn as well as you can after a good sleep...;

A body at rest tends to stay at rest...a body in motion tends to stay in motion....; Keep moving.
