If the target was simply to hang Saddam, didn't it cost a bit too much?

... The American soldiers were sent to Iraq based on a lie told by our president,...no! we did not reach our target as our target was to find and destroy weapons of mass destruction which even Bush admits may not exist,... since then ,he has changed the reason for going to war once a year and his supporters now use his most recent example,,fighting terrorist ,although they did not exist in Iraq before we invaded... Giving the fact that Bush has two years left I am sure we will hear two more excuses..the result of our adventure is a split country... a world that hates us and generations of children around the world growing up believing we are an evil people!!!

The mission was to remove Saddam Hussein from power. This mission was accomplished. As to our continued involvement? Nation building is a difficult process under the best of circumstances with a united people. This situation does not exist in Iraq due to religious differences. There is a fair amount of anarchy and dissent at this time. What the future holds and how it bodes for US involvement is yet to be seen.

danskepj: The lies here are the ones people like yourself keep spreading either out ignorance or misinterpretation of facts.

The idea that Saddam was producing weapons of mass destruction well precedes the President's tenure.
WMDs were found in Iraq. If you want to argue that there weren't as many as expected, or that they weren't usuable it would be legitimate, but some were found none the less.
Many people in the world hated the United States long before Iraq and will continue to hate us long after.
WMDs were not the only reason cited for invading Iraq.
Terrorism was an original cause cited in the original speech by the President, it did not come a year or even years later.
The world is growing up hating us. Possibly, but people like yourself certainly do not give them reason to like us as you continue to criticize every move and action your country makes.

You know I don't care if you like the President, or the war. It is your right to dissent against that which bothers you, but at least try to be honest with the facts.

I don't think being a refree between the sunni and shiite was their goal. But that is what has happened. They are fighting everywhere in the world.
