The Blue Vinny in Puddletown Dorset. Has been taken over recently and is a real cracker. Just had Sunday lunch there and it was excellent. I should know a good pub as I was The Good Pub guide Licensee of the year in 1996. So if in Dorset do yourselves a favour and visit.

The Eight Bells in Hatfield Old Town.

Formerly my favorite pub (in the whole world) was the King Billy in Northampton but the Brewery didn't like the clientelle (bikers and rockers) so they ruined it, then reopened it and it was a shambles full of estate agents and off duty policemen.

Similarly the Fountain in Welwyn Garden City closed for a refurb and... Now it's O'neils... WHY ????????

If I had a pub I would call it the Dog and Boiler. When I was 12 years old, my last job before bed each night was to take the dog out, and stoke the boiler.

I've got three favourite names, though they aren't necessarily my favourite pubs:
The Hark to Bounty
The Young Vanish (creepy!)
The Frozen Mop.

But my favourites to have a pint or three in are The Swan With Two Nicks (not "Necks"), The Circus Tavern and The Briton's Protection, all of which are in or near Manchester.
