Do you think people my size should be forced to purchase two seats on an airline? Why don't they just make the seats larger? I don't ask the smelly guy next to me to buy two seats and it is worse sitting next to him. What do you think?

For the airline I work at, they have a policy that if there is an empty seat, you don't have to pay for two, but if the flight is full and they were not able to fill an extra seat, then you have to pay for it. I don't know if other airlines have that same policy. I think the policy does make sense to pay for two.

Why shouldn't someone who takes up 2 seats pay for two seats? Or even 1 1/2 seats... if they spill over, then the adjacent sent is rendered useless.

Pay for each seat or portion thereof. If you have an issue with the size, write a letter to the airline... but until then, if you choose to buy one seat, be prepared to sit in it with BOTH armrests down.

My brother runs "afoul" of this law, too.

That said--airlines base their rates on many things-the average weight of x number of passengers, cargo, etc. to figure fuel costs. That's one reason.

My personal belief is that they don't really care if large people fly or not. There is predjudice against the overweight ((I'll stay off my soapbox) and many people don't want to sit next to a large person. Since the airlines don't seem to care whether our luggage arrives with us or not, this is one area they CAN control without seeming to discriminate. Sad..........

They know the weight, but they can't predict x number of smelly people who will be on a specific flight.

Sorry but I have to agree with the airline polacy. Even though having wider seats would be more comfy, it would cost the airlines more, forcing the already overpriced airfares up.

Sorry but I agree with the airline!

If you take up more than one seat, pay for more than one seat or fly first-class where the seats ARE bigger. I purchased my own seat and I may not have invited you to share mine.
Yeah, I sat next to a fella who didn't use deodorant - all the way from Denver to Gatwick. But thanks to the beverage serving policy of British Airways, after a while I didn't notice anymore.
Personally, and this is just me, I'd rather hold a hankerchief to my nose than TRY to hold you on my lap.

I don't think that they should make you purchase 2 seats. Most of the time there is alot of room left in the airplane that you can usually move around.

Is not normal cause all the fares that you are paying to any airline companies are per person or per flight, not per seat...

yes simple fact is they move people and most people are around 150 to 200 pounds and they need to buy gas for the plane because the more weight in the plane the more gas it uses
