After the test with Abraham God says "now I know" that you fear God".

1- "now" means that he didn't know before. God is not omniscient
2- "I" shows that he was not making Abraham test himself, but He himself was making the test, because He didn't know. God is not omniscient.

Which part of the "know I know" you don't understand?

I understand the whole thing. God needed to find out, okay?

Maybe you think you are bringing up a good point, but let me tell you this: God regretted ever having made humans. And so the test of Abraham was important.

At least God had one guy he could count on.

As far as being omniscient is concerned, who ever claimed that for God? It plainly says in Genesis that God changed his mind several times, and was prone to many emotions.

But do not let that cause you to think any less of God; remember that he is omnipotent. He might not do much, but he has the ABILITY to do much.
So be careful what you ask on Yahoo Answers in case he's looking.

I believe that just like Job's test it was a test not only for Abraham but to teach the world down through time that he would obey God.That story was an example of God giving Jesus to the world and would be told over and over. God tested Job but it was also to show the devil that someone did obey Him. God does know what will happen from the beginning to the end but He still does not take away our choice.

I think that sometimes we are too quick to argue over texts which are a translation from the original Hebrew. We do not know whether the word for now in Hebrew had two meanings, like the Latin "iam" which can be translated "already" as well as "now". It may have an idomatic usage, as it does in a number of European languages.

It is absurd to argue that God is not omniscient. He had it all planned. He knew in advance what Abraham would do and indeed had made His covenant with him on that basis. He had arranged for a suitable sacrifice to be caught in the thicket to replace the sacrifice of Isaac, which He would never have allowed to be made. This tale of Abraham and his willingness to sacrifice his son is a "typos" or foreshadowing of God's willingness to sacrifice His own Son. All planned, all foreknown. The big mistake is to assume that God is, like us, caught in time. He isn't. With God everything is present. Therefore when God uses the word "now" (leaving aside the semantic issue mentioned earlier) it does not have the same meaning as it does for mortals with a finite existence.

God knows everything that is, was, and might be. He cannot be sure of what WILL be. Otherwise, how could we have free will? God may have strongly suspected the depth of Abraham's faith, but he could not KNOW (and neither could Abraham) how far Abraham was willing to go until Abraham actually made the choice.

No, God did not know. You will find with further reading that there are a lot of things God did not know. Yes it is logically inconsistent to have an all knowing God that is ignorant of facts.
God also had to go looking for Adam after the apple feast and could not find him, God had to call Adam out of hiding. Definitely not all seeing. It goes on. From the beginning to the end.

God knew Abraham would be faithful; Abraham had to go through the test anyway so that he would be sure of it himself.

Abraham's faith was made complete. Abraham "now" "knew" that he feared God, and he knew that God knew it.
God is omniscient-He does not need to know anything-He knows all.
This is recorded for our benefit-not God's. Go back and flesh it out in ancient Hebrew, then translate it however you want. There is no problem here.

as you know when things get translated sometimes the correct meanings are lost, you need to get a bible that has the original text, i think that might help you to understand, if understanding is your goal here. if it is not then don't bother because no amount of explaining is going to convince you because your goal is not to understand but to disprove Gods omniscience. which can not be done because He is omniscient

Many time God tests His people to prove TO THEMSELVES what is really in their heart.

You misunderstand Scripture because you have no relationship with God my friend.

You remind me of this Scripture:
which speaks about people like you:

"... They that are unlearned and unstable do wrestle, as they do other Scriptures, to their own destruction". (II Peter 3:16)
