My husband and I moved to Sweden in Oct. and brought our 9 year old cat. He is otheriwse healthy, but has started to lose his belly hair and now a rectangular patch on his forearm. No signs of ringworm. Doesnt seem stressed. We havent seen him 'overgrooming'. Never had this problem before. Anyone know anything about this??

The reasons for hair loss are myriad, but it is best to have a vet check your cat to try to determine the cause. Hair loss can be caused by everything from flea allergy (which you say your cat doesn't have) to pancreatic paraneoplastic alopecia, and lots of things in between. You can do your own web search for feline hair loss to see all the different causes. I found one from the UK which lists a whole lot of possibilities:

Hope you can get this sorted out. Glad that he doesn't seem to be distressed.

it is your homestead this is the subject no longer your cat! this is possible that fleas got here into your homestead at one time and stay in the carpets (many times alongside the corners of the room) yet employing your undesirable cat as a nutrition furnish. yet _please_ do no longer shave your cat; it would be surely stressful for her. the final element you're able to do is locate some guy or woman who may be prepared to take up your cat quickly, the place it may desire to be bathed thoroughly, Frontline anti flea teatment given, and saved indoors checking oftentimes to confirm this is freed from fleas. (BTW have you ever tried consulting a vet?) meanwhile get your homestead fumigated professionally (or via employing a proprietary treatment), to kill of the fleas that are patently at your place of residing. Vacuum the rooms/carpets thoroughly, then, after a jointly as, convey your cat back homestead. If the homestead and cat remedies have been effectual, all would be nicely and your daughter could have her puppy back together with her. good success - yet do no longer shave that cat!

Have a vet check your cat to make sure it's nothing serious. If there are no signs of overgrooming or fleas, your cat may have a food allergy. Have you changed your cat's diet recently?

It is important to take your cat to visit the local veterinarian. Your cat could have allergies which the veterianrian can test for. They may also have specially formulated foods to try. Your cat may also have a skin infection of some kind. The only way to know for sure what is wrong with your feline friend is to visit your veterinarian.

Fleas or if fleas have been controlled, it might be allergy from past contact with fleas. Have a vet check to confirm.

It might be the stress from moving. You should take him to the vet to make sure he's okay.

take your cat to the vet, it could be ringworm or he could have mites..ringworm causes animals to lose their hair, and the cat might be itching itself and tearing its hair out.
