it is never a good idea to highlite ur hair @ home! what color is your hair now?? if u get those @ home highliting kit they tend to come out orange or "bleed" on the hair u don't want colored!! it is worth the $$ to go to a salon & have the highlights done. if $$ is a issue i suggest a partial foil at first. the best highlight is a natural looking one!

If you want drastic or professional highlights, you should go to a salon.

However, if you just want something simple to make at home, there are several things you can try:

1) Lemon juice. This is the most common home highlight remedy. To avoid excessive drying, dilute the lemon juice with water (say, 1 part lemon juice, 2-3 parts water). I would use real lemons, and either do a quick rinse with the lemon juice, comb the lemon juice through your hair, or, ideally, put it the mixure in a spray bottle and spritz. You can either sit in the sun or use a hair dryer. This really is best for blonde tones. (You can also add some apple cider vinegar to this mixture.)

2) Chamomile. Rinsing your hair with chamomile tea or, even better, a chamomile infusion, gives great golden highlights to brunettes.

3) If you have red or reddish hair, henna or a hibiscus rinse will give you coppery or lighter highlights (though I'm not sure how either of those work).

4) Olive oil. I'm pretty sure olive oil will do the trick, too, and it also works as an amazing conditioner.

Good luck!

Nothing, to make highlights you need a series of ingredients that PROTECT your hair from the damage that the basic ingredients cause. Javex, and other bleaches are extremely drying, and do not develop enough colour hair.

For $10.00-$13.00, you can get a highlighting kit.

If you're prepared to take your time and be patient however, you can use lemon juice, as it has active lighteners in it. Run lemon juice through the sections you want coloured, and heat with a hair dryer, continually doing so will lighten your hair like Sun-In.

There is no good way to highlight your hair at home. You cannot see what you are doing and you don't know the correct techniques to properly and effectively highlight without the bleach bleeding and spotting. It may turn out uneven and you could really do some damage if you use the wrong kind of bleach. Remember, hair bleach isn't anything to mess around with. You could really damage your hair, if not fry it off. Especially if you have warm undertones, your hair may come out orange and then you'll have no way to tone it. Please take my advice and get it done professionally.
